Hmm…I wonder what conclusions we can draw from that. I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that either Rhode Island has also figured out how to turn its rapists and murderers into model citizens, or that its population and culture is somehow different from places like Texas and California where crime is higher.

We all post here for fun. What you said was that you don’t engage me in good faith and you heckle me just to get a rise out of me. This allegation is supported by your own words, and it is what started the problems in the Susanann Pit thread and the brouhaha that followed.
It’s a mood thing, Beef, sometimes you’re in the mood to tackle something, and other times you’re not. For me, today is a “not”. But if you want to start bugging me too, as Bosstone has apparently decided to do, then you can forget the whole idea.
You made the claim that Norway was going to let a killer of 100 walk away scot-free. You made the claim that their lax criminal justice system would lead to increased crime. These claims are both false.
Norway has extremely low crime rates, even with their liberal criminal justice system. And their recidivism rate on the criminals they do have is extremely low, even compared to other European countries.
Then you threw in another non-sequitor about Rhode Island… you’re kind of all over the place today.
Oh please. You never had any intention of responding to my post in a substantial way because reality simply does not support your views. You can declare this and that, and if we did this, that’s how it would be, and when we did that, this is how it went, because it makes sense to you internally. It fits your ideology and world view.
So what happens when the real world doesn’t, and didn’t, work in the way that you’ve modelled it in your head? What happens when reality disagrees with your views? Well of course you gloss over it, and avoid thinking about it, and engage in rationalization if necesary. You never actually stop to think “hmm, what does reality differing from my internal model for reality actually mean for my internal model?” - the internal model trumps reality for you.
You are not unique in this way, of course. But you do throw out all sorts of declarative statements that are simply so wrong that they are easily disproved, so I do rather like trying to make you engage in cognitive dissonance to deny reality when called on it.
Your first tactic when confronted with this is to just ignore it. If someone holds your feet to the fire, you’ll suddenly take a break from the thread and by the time you get back no one will remember you refused to answer for your bullshit. Well, that’s what I’m doing here.
It’s cute, though. “I’ll be too busy to post for a few days so I’ll address it then” turns into “not busy at all, just going to ignore it since I’m not in the mood”, and then finally “well if you keep demanding that I back up my claims, of course I’m not going to engage with you!”
The last one is comical in in its absurdity as a dodge.
Perhaps it only appears that way because you’re hearing things I never said, or arriving at conclusions that are erroneous. Can you point to where I said Norway was going to let the killer of “scot-free”? I don’t think you can. Can you prove that it is Norway’s criminal justice system rather than other factors unique to its society that is responsible for the crime and/or recidivism rate? I don’t think you can.
At any rate, mollycoddling criminals has most certainly not worked in this country, and I’m getting tired of reading about people being robbed, abducted, raped, tortured and killed because assholes who should have been in prison for sizable chunks of their lives if not for life itself are walking the streets while still in their late twenties and early thirties and free to prey upon them.
It’s interesting, though, that you’re not in the mood to engage in the specific debating points you raised. I mean, clearly you have time to post on the board, and you’re in the mood to debate. In fact you continue to post in this very thread about this very discussion. Your “not in the mood” feeling apparently only extends specifically to backing up the bullshit you spout when called on it.

But like I said, if you’re going to pester me about it until I do, and insult my honesty and integrity in the process, then you can forget the whole idea. I question your honesty and integrity. Your claims have been proven to be in error several times and yet you repeat the claims without hesitation. At what point does blindness turn to stupidity and eventually into dishonesty?

I’ve never shied away from my opponents on this board and I’m not doing so now. And on those occasions where I feel I’ve been wrong or where someone has proven me wrong, I believe that a board search will show that I’m not above recognizing it, or apologizing if an apology is called for. But I’m simply not going to allow myself be harangued like this. I wouldn’t put up with it in off-board life and I’m not gonna put up with it here.
