What do you think of this tv? I’m looking to upgrade to 4K and am looking for a good entry level UHD tv and UHD player.
I have a new 6-series TCL, and it’s fantastic. However, during my research, I saw that the 4-series (and most entry level 4K TVs) doesn’t have true HDR, which is a big part of 4K content. But if that’s the top of your budget, you’ll be very happy with the value. I’ve been extremely pleased with switching to the Roku interface - finding content has never been easier. If you can, upgrade your remote to one with the voice control. You can ask it do something like “find ‘House’ episodes”, and it’ll search for which platform you can watch them on.
Edit: for those looking for something a little higher up the TV food chain, Best Buy has the new TCL 8-Series 65" model for $1000, which is an insane value for the best non-OLED on the market right now.
If I order online can I trust it to arrive functional? What are the chances of it getting broken in transit? The lowlifes within 250 miles of my nearest Walmart and Best Buy have insured that I can’t get it at a brick and mortar store. I hate people.
I’d be surprised if the TV were damaged in shipping. They are packaged for shipping and the company would be in serious trouble if they were unable to reliably ship their products. BTW, for those not familiar with the name, TCL has only been getting into the US market in the last few years, but they are the third largest TV manufacturer in the world.
It’s like I’m on a holy mission to get a 4k tv at any cost to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey in UHD. And then a UHD player. And then a HDMI 2.0 etc. I’m fanatical over this. So I take it very personal that other people are impeding my mission from god. I don’t care about other people’s needs, I must have the transcendental experience of UHD 2001.
I have a 3 point acquisition plan.
- obtain 43S425 tv *
- ??? obtain whatever UHD blu ray player that is cheap but not garbage
- obtain 2001 UHD blu ray
misc. obtain HDMI 2.0 cable
*. or 43S525 if on sale
Now how is this supposed to work without a damn tv? I’m ready to join those idiots out on the street with their rifles out demanding everything reopen. I’d even go MAGA if Trump helped this plan come to fruition.
Well, the 4K version of 2001 is HDR - so you’re going to want a television that supports HDR. The 4-series isn’t going to do that. The 5-series will. For not a lot more money, the 6-series will vastly outperform the 5-series, so that is what I would recommend.
Is 43" your maximum size? If so, then I guess the 5-series is your best buy.
