They always do such a great job (I knew they’d have Barbara Kent, but was impressed that Miriam Seegar was included, too!).

I’m not suprised considering the Oscars now present their Lifetime Achievement Oscars at the technical awards which I doubt are even televised.
Hell, I think TCM should get an Oscar. I’m not kidding.
TCM always does a nice job of it.
I really enjoyed it. They did so much right. Extremely tasteful…not going for the cheap tear, but being very touching none-the-less. Closing with Liz Taylor…giving Peter Falk the only speaking line (that I heard, I came in to it late).
The music was well done too…Not bombastic just hitting the right note (or notes as the case might be).
Thanks for the link. Excellent job from TCM.
The Scientific and Technical Awards are not televised, in part because, quite often, nobody actually wins an Oscar (they give out a lot of plaques and certificates, but it takes something really special to get an actual Oscar for inventing something; the last three Oscars have had no winners).
The job of picking the clips would be an honor and a terror … I liked the way they did Peter Falk - both movies of his I loved, Princess Bride and Wings of Desire. I think they did a fantastic job picking the music as well.
This is very true, though I should note that, in addition, the Honorary/Lifetime Achievement Oscars are awarded on a different night, much earlier than the actual competitive awards show.
There were a lot of deaths this year.
I liked the TCM tribute, too. One of the things I like is there is no audience watching and madly applauding the most popular well-known deceased people. I find that cringeworthy watching the Oscars…Joe Blow, screenwriter - silence. John Smith, bit player - clap. Sue Jones, one biggish movie role in the 40’s - clap clap. Elizabeth Taylor - UPROAR! Standing ovation!
