TdF2020 - Allez!

Really small time gaps though. You expect minutes, not seconds. Roglic loses red, but is actually in really good shape now. He’s likely to take significant time on Tuesday, and there’s many opportunities for anyone to get it back after that.

I caught the last 30 minutes of the stage; that climb was ridiculous. What is that road used for when it’s not a bicycle race? It didn’t look wide enough for two cars.

Jens Voigt, commenting for Eurosport, called it a “goat trail”. I don’t know if he was serious or sarcastic.

I didn’t see any goats. Did you see any goats?

I think they built it to see if pro tour riders are dumber than goats. Turns out, they are.

It is so relaxing to just watch these guys crank away on the pedals and shut off the election noise for a while.

Those cobbles. Jeez.

Great battle for stage win.

It’s ‘Go-Do’, Bob. FFS.

Roglic having to do some work.

Carapaz attacks in anger.

Great attack, but I’m afraid it won’t quite work out in the end.

Seems a reach.

Roglic looks spent.

I thought for a few minutes that Roglic would throw away his second win in a big tour at the last stage in a year.

Exciting. I wonder if they’ll make a fight of it on the last day.

Isn’t there the same gentlemen’s agreement to not attack on the last stage like at the TdF?

Almost certainly. But it must be tempting. Through with 10-15 second difference, it seems unlikely to be worthwhile in the last stage.

I was wrong. it’s 24 seconds. And a lock for Roglic.

Just finished watching. A bit surprised to see Kuss crack so soon and leave Roglic isolated, but Primoz was just strong enough.

It’s not so much that there’s a gentleman’s agreement to not attack in the final stage, as it’s dead flat and any team with a sprinter is going to be going flat out for the stage win making attacks almost certainly futile. Carapaz is not the sort of guy who can hold onto a 20 second lead solo in front of a bunch of sprint trains.

Nice work by Bora-Hansgrohe and Pascal Ackermann to win the last stage.

Yeah, they realized they needed their train at the front through those last bends. DQS on the other hand were really asleep at the switch. It looked like Morkov did drop Bennett off in a near perfect position, but they had to come from so far back it was too late.

And that’s a wrap for the season. More racing than we’d feared when things started getting canceled in spring, but hopefully we get to see the spring classics in spring next year.

Thanks to everyone for participating in this thread. See you next season.
