So I’m the committee to organise quarterly ‘team building’ activites. I actually don’t mind it, and we’ve come up with what should be a fun afternoon/evening for our first event.
We’re holding an Amazing Race/Treasure Hunt type of thing, which we’re calling “The City Safari” around the CBD of our city.
Something I would love though is some suggestions some prizes. We’re talking up the competitive aspect, with teams of 4-5 getting points and we have a budget of ~$200 for prizes for the winning team.
Problem is our office has quite a wide range of age groups, from some new graduates up to some people in their 50’s.
About the only thing the committee has ruled out is bottles of alcohol as prizes. We don’t want to emphasis the team building = getting boozy connection.
That’s trouble right there, unless your team normally works afternoons and evenings. Most people have a team called a “family” or a “personal life” that they’d rather build at night.
Why not keep with the City Safari theme and give passes to different local events. Assuming a team of 4 might win you could give the equivalent of $50 to each. Look up upcoming events and get tickets to a variety of things perhaps some venues would give hefty discounts (museum; art gallery; boat show; flower show; that type of thing). Or tickets to a show. If you get a variety you can allow them to select which thing interests them personally.
Or: Winner gets an exemption from the next team-building exercise
