The screen on my laptop has died and before I take it in to be repaired I want to back-up my files. Where do I find the folder or files to back-up my microsoft outlook calendar?
On a stand-alone (as opposed to a corporate setup on an Exchange server) PC, look for your Outlook files in
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
There are actually quite a few files that are part of Outlook. Head over here for a full run-down of them all.
Help. My desktop is gone for the moment. I was able to salvage my hard drive. I had it installed as a slave drive in my other desktop. I’m guessing my outlook calendar is still accessible but this all I could find:
E:\Documents and Settings\default\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
outlook3.pst
archive.pst
Do I import or open this/these files in the Outlook on the new system? I tried both and they just open another Personal Folder tree with no data. I don’t care about anything except the calendar. I really need the calendar. I have everything on it. HELP!!!
Do a search for *.pst to on the slave drive and test all you find. Your data It will be in a .PST file somewhere as long as it’s not corrupted, you were using the full version of Outlook (not Express), and it was storing your emails locally (rather than on a company exchange system).
Opening a .PST on the new system should work fine to view the contents, though “Import from a file” is the way to go to get everything back in the default folder structure. Is the new computer running the same version of Outlook? Newer PST files won’t work on older versions of Outlook.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. I’m guessing it is corrupted. I was running the same version of outlook. I did the search and that’s all I found. How do you go about saving your calander for future refence?
What version of outlook are you using? There are utilities to repair corrupt PST files, by the way, but are you sure it is corrupted? It wouldn’t usually open into outlook in any form, if corrupted. Outlook 2003 has some funny view options so you might still have a happy ending.
