Sammy is fine with being thought of as a Nazi because he is one. This was apparent even before that idiotic thread. Sammy’s big problem is that he desperately wants to be thought of as a brilliant Nazi, and that part isn’t working out so well. Sammy probably has recurring fantasies of being the leading genius of the Third Reich, designing self-replicating Panzers powered by swarms of nanobots. There are still people that are identifiable as Italian or Irish, maintain that as a part of their identity, celebrate particular holidays differently or more intensively than the average other citizen. There are also communities with other heritages all over the world that are similarly distinguishable. Some are younger than the bulk of Italian or Irish mass immigration to the US, some are older, some are more distinguishable and some are less, but none suffer the same degree of being singled out for persecution.
Yes, there are descendants of Italian or Irish immigrants who have completely vanished into the melting pot, but that’s true for Jewish immigrants as well, and a lot of descendants of immigrants who chose to avoid passing traditions and language on to fit in regret it today.
Italians and Irish were discriminated against. That discrimination didn’t stop because they all assimilated, it stopped because people started accepting “I’m Irish, I’m staunchly catholic and only drink potatoes and Guinness” as a thing was perfectly fine to do. I actually don’t think it’s intentional trolling. I think it’s Dunning-Kruger on full display. Sammy really is that stupid, and that oblivious to it. It’s the stupidity coupled with his pathological pomposity that leads him to provide instant solutions to all the world’s problems. All that’s required is to “just” do what Sammy says, though it’s usually pretty obvious that Sammy understands little or nothing about the actual problem. There was a infographic on the difference between a “Becky” and a “Stacy.” Not that I was going out of my way to learn them, but I thought it constructive to put his random blathering into context.
