TED talk: connection between the feeling of disgust and political leanings

The Strange Politics of disgust

Really interesting TED talk that I watched over the weekend.

He’s careful to point out that the scientific method does not prove if this is correlation or causation but essentially they’ve found that people who are more easily disgusted by images, odors etc are also more politicially conservative. This seems to have a stronger than usual effect on topics like gay marriage.

Can’t watch the TED talk now, but this sounds similar to Jonathan Haidt’s work. He identifies several (five IIRC) moral areas. Then finds large differences between which of these are important to conservatives vs. liberals.
