television

Was opening some pop, and some accidentally spilled into the top of the tv. The picture went off, so i turned it off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. it seems okay. I cannot afford another tv so i hope this is safe.

safest would be to unplug it and leave it off until it dried, depends on the amount that got inside.

If it were me, I’d leave the thing turned off for a day, even if it works now.
Give the innards a chance to dry.
There may be one last drop of pop in there, just waiting to drip when you least expect it. That drip could cause trouble, if it drops.

Dribble dribble, drop drop,
I wish that I hadn’t spilled that pop.
Drip drip, puddle puddle,
Now my TV set’s all a-muddle.

With apologies to The Metrotones.

My wife (then GF) spilled the entire contents of a can of root beer into the top of her CRT computer monitor while she was working on a paper for college. The screen popped and turned off. She came to me in tears (hey, CRT monitors were once expensive items) and we waited for it to dry out and it turned on. 11 years later, and the monitor is in my garage for my shop computer…still working.

I once accidentally soaked a telephone in tonic water. Not good. :frowning:

What kind of pop? I have found with pop spills (or coffee spills) and computers, if it’s sugary pop you are in a LOT worse postion than if it’s sugar free. The sugar tends to be really hard on the insides of TV and computers and electronics
