Tell Me about Health Insurance and Pre Existing Conditions

I work for a private ambulance company in Maryland that is privately owned. They aren’t a very large company, despite being the largest privately owned ambulance company in the state. Maybe a total of 100 employees give or take.

Each year the company “reviews” the health coverage plan and almost always buy into a different plan then the previous year. This year they are changing again. Shocker! I forget the name of the new carrier, but it’s a “regional” company that I’ve never heard of. So I’m a bit weary.

I’ve started a process to have a large lipoma (roughly the size of a lacrosse ball) removed from my back near my lumbar spine.

My question is, am I at risk of not having this covered because of the hopscotching of insurance companies? I’m sure that “pre existing conditions” will vary from policy to policy, but I’m at a loss and what my next move should be.
