Tell me about living in Cleveland.

Turn blue, you purple knif!

Awww. The ink wore all off mine when it went through the dishwasher. It was from Manners.

So, how’d the interview go?

Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one.

I got a job offer in Cleveland. The job is nice but I’m wary of living in Cleveland (as opposed to my other job prospects which are in NY and elsewhere). Seems to have plenty of pros and cons. Could someone tell me about living in Downtown, particularly the warehouse district?

Looks as if it would be fun.

Sorry I didn’t see this thread earlier. I’ve PM’d Q.N. Jones to bring her back to the thread she started. Hope she’s here in town, and happy!

Swords to Plowshares, I work downtown, right on the edge of the Warehouse District. There are some nice apartments and condos in the area, and the bar/restaurant scene is outstanding; you’d have to do your grocery and pharmacy shopping elsewhere, though. Any questions? Ask here or PM me.

I’ve lived in Cleveland, with just a three-year hiatus, since 1989. Been on the East Side the whole time: initially in Cleveland Heights, just up the hill from Little Italy; then University Heights, not far from there; and now Cleveland, near Shaker Square and right on the Shaker Heights border. Cleveland has its problems, just like any big city nowadays, but good houses are cheap, the neighborhoods are lively, the bar and restaurant scene is happenin’, and you have your choice of world-class amenities (most of which are on the East Side): the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland Garden Center, Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center, West Side Market, Playhouse Square, Cedar-Lee Theatre and Cleveland Cinematheque, to name only a few. And, as BMalion said, our DopeFests are epic.

Here’s a nice recent video about Cleveland, intended to lure law school students here: Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University School of Law - YouTube. Obviously it accentuates the positive, but it’s worth a look.

Hope to meet you here someday!

Nope, not even close–which is why I let this thread die. The organization I was interviewing with lost their funding, hence no job. They then told me there was another job with them, in New Haven, and that I was a shoo-in…told me I just had to wait out the posting period…and then they hired back a former employee because it would save them money on training.

So I am very unhappily still living in Iowa, and looking for a job. :frowning:

It’s great but only if you get Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White as your neighbors

Sorry - good luck! We’re pulling for you. At least you can vote in the caucuses in a few days, right…?

Well, you know the old saying “What happens in Iowa, stays in Iowa”.

Funny–today I applied for a job in Macedonia. I had no idea where that was, but turns out it’s a suburb of Cleveland! Would any of you nice folks be able to tell me anything about that area? Previously, I was looking at downtown Cleveland.

I’m not really a suburbs person–but also hate to commute in the mornings. I’m not getting my hopes up this time, but would appreciate some input.

(Sorry I was so crabby when this thread got bumped before. 2011 was a rough year.)

Nice area. Easy freeway acess, shopping, restaurants and you would be close to lots of stuff.
Dopefest!

I live in Macedonia!

I grew up here and bought a house in the neighborhood I grew up in. In fact, 4 other kids I grew up with bought houses here too and a lot of the kids I graduated with still live in the area.

It’s equidistant from Akron and Cleveland and anything you could ever want (except Ikea) is always 20 minutes away. Ikea is an hour and a half away  We’re on two major highways (271 for your N/S needs and 480 for your E/W needs) and right near the Turnpike.

Houses here are like $80k-350k. Mine’s in the middle around $150k.

If you didn’t want to live in Macedonia proper, there are a million little towns within easy driving distance (20 minutes!) of here each with their own personalities.

Macedonia, of course, has the Wal Mart and the movie theater so we win!

If you need more info email me at my screen name at gmail.com. I LOVE love love Macedonia and could tell you everything you need to know

Thank you! I will do that if/when I manage to get an interview.

I wish you’d just tell us what you really think about the town.

Did I forget to mention that I LOVE it here? Cuz I totally do

Amen!

Living in Northfield here, right next to Macedonia.

Pretty much what ZipperJJ has said. Macedonia was one of the cities on our short list when we bought our house. Will be happy to chime in on any questions about the area, although having moved here in May, the expertise is somewhat less than The Zip can offer.
