Mom, I, and 2 sisters heading to Cleveland next weekend. Will be attending an Indians game, but would rather stay/shop on the outskirts.
I, personally, would love to stay/shop somewhere a little more unique than Crocker Park which seems to have every store you can find in any mall these days. Read an e-article about shopping which briefly mentioned Lakewood and a few unique-sounding shops, but I’m not sure if just a few shops are going to keep us occupied for the whole weekend.
They’re not big on antiques, so the antique district is not an option for us.
Any ideas on must-stay neighborhoods in the Cleveland area? (we plan to cab it to the ball game) and p.s. we’re open to other touristy activities too!
Beachwood Place is our most frou-frou mall. Next door to it is Legacy Village which is the east-side version of Crocker Park.
There’s also Eton but I don’t know what’s there, other than Trader Joe’s.
Further out is Chagrin Falls which is an upscale community with a downtown shopping area.
Even further out is First and Main in Hudson, another upscale community with a downtown shopping area.
If you want something truly girly, go to tea at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Cleveland. Or Google for other places around town for tea.
The place to be for eating right now is the Tremont neighborhood.
If you’re going to be at the museums, you can check out Little Italy and Coventry (who seems to have a useless web site right now…but you gotta go to the vintage toy store, Big Fun!)
The super-cool kids have moved on from Coventry to Collinwood but even I’m not cool enough to figure out what to do up there. Well other than visit THEIR vintage toy store, and pop in on the record store.
I was gonna say, you have to go downtown and see where they filmed A Christmas Story! Also, there are some cool arcades around there. (Shopping, not video.)
If you are foodies there’s a huuuuge indoor/outdoor market – not all chi-chi and hister, a real cool old-school place. Outdor (covered) market has fruits/veg indoor market has butchers, spice stores, artisan breads, cheese, candy, etc. There is a cute area of shops and a brewpub within a couple blocks . Also the Shwarma stand in the back is excellent for some lunch. Fish up with the killer flan at Lelolai Cafe
I would pick up some lunch stuff and drive over to Edgewater Park for a picnic!
The USS Cod is a cool thing to see. I know, you’re thinking… WWII submarine… with the girls? Bt it is really cool. You can poke around all you want – open drawers and cabinets, try out the bunks, point the deck guns at Canada, etc. It’s a self-guided tour with audio presentations but there are usually a couple of veterans hanging around who will answer your most inane questions with delight. It’s quite close to the Rock & Roll hall of fame. Note: you have to climb up/down a ladder so it doesn;t work for the mobility-impaired.
I don’t know how many place to stay there are in Ohio City; you might find a B&B though.
