Anyone here ever lived there or spent lots of time there?
Remotely kicking around the idea of renting a house there that we have in the family and commuting to Columbus for work.
Ridiculous?

Great place to go canoeing. Period.
You’ll have an approximate 80 mile commute, depending on where you are going in Columbus. It’ll take you an hour and a half. Sounds like a sucky commute, at least to me. But maybe a free? house would make it worth it.
Well, I am a birdwatcher, and Malabar Farm, to me, is heaven on earth. So as far as living locale, it sounds nice…
Probably wouldn’t be free rent, but it would be close. Meh…all that driving…
I don’t know a whole lot about Loudonville, but can tell you the commute into Columbus from Loudonville is likely to suck.
During rush hour, I-71 can have days where it’s a mess from Delaware to downtown Columbus, and the whole north part of I-270 gets to be a mess fairly often, too. If you’ve coming in from the north and going downtown, or to the south or west, be prepared for days when the commute will take you an extra hour.
Outside of rush hour, traffic in Columbus is usually ok. Stay off of SR-315 during home Ohio State football games.
Agreed. If the house is free, it might be worth it. It’s a nice recreation area, and if you’re outdoorsy, your weekends could be awesome. But if you have to pay rent anyway, I’d rent closer to work and collect rent from somebody else on the house.
I didn’t realize where Loudonville was at first, but my family is originally from a small town near Mansfield. I know that there are people there that make the commute to Columbus, but I don’t think I could ever justify it. Of course, on the southern end of the state, I have the same issue. I could look for jobs in Columbus, but the drive would make it ridiculous. It would be about 70 miles each way from here. Maybe you could check out something similar that is slightly closer to Columbus. Just out of curiosity, why Loudonville? I mean, there are nice towns between Columbus and there, but I figure you’ve got some specific reason to pick that town (exactly the reason I live in the middle of nowhere - we are from here and came back.)

Here’s a thought… live in Columbus and spend weekends at the house in Loudonville. Probably save enough in gas money to make it work.
Is there a specific reason you’d be working in Columbus? Mansfield is closer. It’s not as big as Columbus, but there might be an opportunity there.
Mohican S.P. is nice. It’s actually a nice scenic drive down Route 3 to Cols. but too long for every-day commuting. What kind of work would you be looking for? You could also check out the Wooster area.
