We once took a jeep tour out to the San Andreas Fault, it was amazing. The actual fault is right there- a gash in the earth that is really something. You learn quite a bit about the desert as well, which was fascinating. It isn’t the least bit empty or desolate.
I generally don’t go out at night either, but there are several tribal casinos out there. Not that you’d know they are tribal operations, as there are no Indians working there.
I’ll second the Ruth’s Chris in PS- it is divine. Wally’s Velvet Turtle is also very nice, with lots of “old Palm Springs.”
I forgot that you live on the water up there. I had no idea that the alewives problem was worse back then…it’s so sad to have those beautiful shores mucked up like that.
It was 10,000 times worse back then. The alewives have been a trivial to non-existant nuisance by us for the last few decades. And now with the Quagga mussels eating all their food, the alewive population is crashing further. Sadly, Salmon and trout populations will crash with them.
Azul in Palm Springs has delightful Tapas. We went with another couple, and kept ordering different plates and sharing them until we’d had enough.
Their fried apricot ravioli and banana spring rolls made excellent deserts.
