Tell me about Redondo, Manhattan, Hermosa Beaches....

Hey all. Thinking of relocating from the east coast beach to a west coast beach, mostly for the weather and the laid back vibe. I’ll be visiting in November and have some interviews set up (veterinary medicine). Staying with a friend but she is a recent transplant herself.

Looking for places to live (me and a cat) as close to the beach as possible, a job in biking distance and a beachy, laid back liberal vibe. Would like bars, stores, public transit access close by as well.

Budget is a problem. Trying to stay under 1500/mo, looking for a 1 br or studio. What are the areas to stay away from? I’ve been hitting craigslist, city data.com and some other sites to get a feel of different places.

Any info at all would be appreciated!!!

I just spent a week in Hermosa Beach. I loved it. The beach is great, there’s lots of beach volleyball, cycling, skating and boarding going on every day, the bars and restaurants are great, and the weather is amazing. I think that your price range will restrict you to small apartments more than a couple of blocks away from the beach, but that should be close enough.

Parking is insane. Those beaches fill up on people during weekends, holidays, summers. Street parking is not viable unless you’re far from the beach

Manhattan Beach is the nicest of three.

Are you a hockey fan? With the exception of one player, all the LA Kings live in either Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach.

Have you tried westsiderentals.com? That’s pretty popular for searching apartments in Southern California.

Are you only interested in the South Bay, because there are plenty of other laid back beach communities in Southern California.

The beach areas are the way to go, spent my entire life here. Durring this terrible So Cal heat wave we have managed to stay below 90 while most surrounding cities are well over 100.
