OK, folks, I’ve started a brand new job, and one of the things I’m expected to spend the next couple of months doing is learning everything I can about the direct mail industry. I’m already signed up for one industry-specific user group, but I also know there’s nothing someone around here doesn’t know about or at least think he or she knows about.
So, tell me all there is to know, including some good resources in addition to the US Postal service itself. I’m on the IT side of the company, but I’d like to learn every aspect of it.
Thanks, as always for your help. You’ve been an incredibly valuable resource to me in the past, and I know you’ll come through again.
You neglected to include any information as to the size of the business. Obviously not a kitchen table deal but the question reall is how big or how many mailout/day or some other measure.
The OP is a tall order. OTOH its a matter of obtainng sucker lists, mailing out the bait,
reeling in the greenbacks, and expanding the lists while culling out the slim pickin’s.
Mail is usually sent bulk mail for the lowest rate. Involves a whole new area of discussion best learned by talking to someone in person at the loacal main PO who is in charge of the Bulk Mail Facility. Depending on size of your operation you may need addressing equipment compliant with USPS regulations for your mailings.
