My office partially burned down (as in, it was mostly in the interior of a building with some exterior windows and was mostly contained to my part of the building).
Oddly enough, I had had a nagging feeling all weekend that I had left our hot waxer on (this is an old-fashioned means of doing press-ready graphic design. I pulled up to work on Monday, saw the damage and almost sh*t my pants.
Turns out the night custodian had flicked a not-all-the-way-out cigarette butt into the metal barrel my printer used for oily press rags. It’s a true miracle the whole building didn’t go up in a ball of flame (offset presses use some very unstable, highly flammable production chemicals).
It took a Servicemaster Disaster Rehab team about six weeks to clean the damage. At least we got new computers and furniture out of it.
