Tell me about this Hammond/Leslie setup

Today was the day the stuff at my grandparents’ house got divided up. I finally took a good look at the organ and speaker cabinet in their garage.

It turns out it’s a Hammond CV (serial no. 24795) organ, and a Leslie Vibratone 31H (no. 4583) cabinet with the rotating horn for the vibrato effect. I was pretty excited to find this out, but I don’t really know anything about this.

Both of these seem to be in good condition. We played them today, and the setup sounds an awful lot like what you might hear at Dodger Stadium.

How common are either of these items? How much might they be worth? What else can anyone tell me about these items that might be interesting?

      • I dunno nuts about ‘em, but you can usually get a ballpark figure (ha!) of just about what anything’s worth by watching other peoples’ similar items on e-bay.

The Leslie cabinet is popular among musicians, although less so now that electronic effects are able to produce the same sounds more or less. The Hammond organ that most rock players want is the B3. I think it must be more flexible.

Vintage Hammond website shows a CV and leslie speaker for $3450. But it also includes a JR-20 tone cabinet, whatever that is.

They had other CVs on their site ranging from about $2000 to $5000.

For $5.95, they will appraise your organ. You might even get your HMO to cover it.
