defiantely try laying it flat. For the record, mine is flat.

TV has to be ntsc compatible. Don’t know if there’s a American version for playing PAL though.
Oh and as for the parental lock problem. You have to go into the options and set a password and set the restriction to 1 or the hightest number (I can’t remember wether 1 is the highest or lowest setting)
Yes, it seems some of the earlier PS2s were not very reliable.
The newer PS2s have the dvd drivers in the chips themselves, so no need to store them on
the memory card.
