Someone I know keeps a bottle of Seagram’s Whiskey in the trunk of the car, just in case.
Nonna yur god dang bidniss ya nosy bastard.
Ya ain’t from the gubmint is ya son?
Lots of ammo. Mostly 7.62x51, .223, and .50 BMG.
Lots.
I can repair or at least replace almost everything in my house. My tools are my emergency stash. I’m probably kidding myself if it comes to replacing the roof though.
Edit/ Oh wait. I currently have about 2 cases of beer. /Edit

So. . . . 2 days worth? Sounds a little light. ![]()
I’m about 50 miles inland from the Gulf coast, and on relatively high ground, so hurricane-spawned power outages are the most likely scenario. I’ve got supplies mainly to get through 3-5 days without power, to wit:
Big-ass flashlight
bunch of little flashlights scattered around the house
A few candles as well
Several gallons of drinking water
Five days worth of canned goods for one person
Plastic utensils and paper plates
Battery-powered radio
Small hand tool kit
Plenty of reading material
I really should get a first aid kit one of these days.
Plan is, if a hurricane looks to be coming through, fill the car’s tank with fuel, wait for the storm to blow through, check the place for damage, and if it looks like the power might be off for more than 3 days or so, bug out to some more salubrious location.
Despite its simplicity, my “system” was well tested when Ike came through a couple years ago, and seemed to work fine. If I had had to deal with structural damage, that would have been another thing entirely.
Likewise, I’m hopelessly unprepared for the Zombie Apocalypse. No weapons, for one thing, unless one counts a shovel and some golf clubs.
If you’re going to approach the matter in such a hardcore fashion (i.e., planning for the collapse of civilzation rather than an an earthquake), shouldn’t you also be prepared to butcher your meat?
I’m stuck at home without a car right now until 4 p.m. on weekdays, and I live in snow country. Every year about this time I make a list of stuff we need and fill up my basement pantry, and I’m working on that right now. I do NOT want to have to jump in the car at night in a blizzard to get cat food, ibuprofen, beer, or whatever. I’ve never been snowed in more than two days, but I do believe in Being Prepared. I have batteries in all the flashlights, the cutest little battery operated lantern for reading by when the lights go out, an ancient Walkman radio, and a solar-powerer crank operated radio for getting news updates on the Apocalypse.
Are you talking about personal stashes? I have a little wad of bills hidden that I try to add to now and then (sadly, the amount gets smaller all the time). Separately, an absolute dire emergency fund of about $100…There’s a can of cashews hidden in the defunct dishwasher for the midnight cravings. A $10 bill always hidden and replaced as needed in my purse. A precious few pain pills and a tranquilizer hidden in my jewelry box. And several little mini-bottles of vodka and whiskey for medicinal purposes, should I run out of wine.:D.
I’m all set for a power outage or blizzard. Bring it on.
A recent early snowstorm here in Minnesota dumped an inordinate amount of wet heavy snow on the Twin Cities. Minnepolis was ok, but the northern suburb of Anoka had more difficulties. So many power lines went down there that the electric company had to cut off the power at the central distribution point, including power to the water company. So Anoka was without running water for the better part of a day.
I’ve used up all my emergency supplies.
I’ve never not had running water in a power outage. Maybe I should fill up some gallon milk jugs. Water and no coffee - now that’s a real hardship. I used to keep a couple bottles of emergency Diet Coke on hand, much to my surprise it went bad over the course of a few months.
