Tell us an interesting random fact you stumbled across (Part 1)

Radioactive waste from WWII weapons production has closed an elementary school in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Paul: “But I never sawr them winging…”

Pity it’s not in upstate New York.

you know, 'Til There was You is, IDK, such a silly love song

That was, um, unsettling. I was not familiar with the Beatles 'Til There was You so I went over to YT to play it (typical Brit enunciation, “… I never sar them at all …”) and then looked for the Shirley Jones version for comparison.

The latter version began with a bit of dialog,

Miss Marion, you’re late.

You said fifteen minutes.

I didn’t mean that kind of late.

umm …

I’m very happy for Kizzy and Loki’s success. My play on ‘horrifying’ about Halloween costumes didn’t go over well, just poor delivery on my part. I do find this kind of spending somewhat… let’s just say notable. Otherwise it’s more fit for other forums to discuss, if at all necessary which it probably isn’t.

You’re cutting that off deliberately to try to make it seem lewd. The next line clearly states that he’s saying she should have started dating years before.

The brand name Triscuit is a portmanteau of “Electricity Biscuit,” an excitingly modern baking technique in 1903. The company has confirmed.

Speaking of electricity and baking, the bread used to make panko is baked by passing electricity through it.

A little bump is needed for this thread - and happily I have just the thing. Musing the Mile High Stadium in Denver, an obvious question occurred to me. The answer is (very nearly) the three mile high stadium:

And speaking of controversy, related is this:

FIFA being the world governing body for soccer.

Regarding Bolivia playing at Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz (at an altitude of 3,637 metres (11,932 feet) above sea level),

During 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cup qualifiers together, Bolivia had fourteen home wins and ten home draws, and only two away draws and no away wins.

Currently there doesn’t appear to be any altitude restriction applied by FIFA.

Somebody tricked TMZ into reporting the death of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Ouch. They’re usually more careful with their sourcing.

The shock of learning he hadn’t already died years ago probably short circuited the usual due diligence.

I knew that! And my know-it-all sister-in-law didn’t. (It came up a couple of months ago after my mother-in-law’s funeral.)

I thought for sure (before reading the article) that this was going to be around the Jennings area, where I remember there was a huge army ammunition plant right along I-70.

I grew up in the Ferguson/Florissant area in the 60s and 70s. When I was a kid we used to donate our baby teeth to science when they fell out. I don’t remember who was doing the study, but they were tracking some sort of radioactivity (strontium 90?) I wonder if that was related to this?

TIL (and I find this fascinating).

Just to say that I also found Vulpes vulpes vulpes for the Scandinavian Fox, but no species with four identical names. I guess there really are none. Three? Quite a lot. I give up the search.

I think we’ve done our due diligence.

I do as well. Thank you for sharing.

That’s because zoological nomenclature only goes down to subspecies names. While non-zoological nomenclature allows for even finer subdivisions, it does not allow the genus and species (and subspecies) names to be identical. Hence you will only ever find animals with identical genus, species, and subspecies names, and never four identical names.
