Tell us an interesting random fact you stumbled across (Part 1)

I can’t imagine police often ticket firefighters. However, a local group used to host “911 nights” where part of the entertainment was aggrieved responders engaging in a boxing match or other mutually agreed on grudge match, to settle grievances in front of their coworkers who would drink beer and bet on them. I wonder if something like this led to any of those? I doubt they still hold these.

Pineapple is a type of composite fruit, which means it has developed from many ovaries and other floral parts. Pineapple is a type of sorosis fruit that is developed of catkins, spikes, or spadix-type inflorescences.
Can you think of other fruits related to pineapple? Do they go on Pizza?

I hear it is closely related to Corn.

That may be hard. They are the only member of the bromeliaceae family that we eat. Next up is the order poales which are grasses, sedges and bromeliads.

Not closely. But closer than pineapple is to strawberries. Another kind of composite fruit.

Pineapple tastes really good on pizza.

Intolerance!

Pineapple and Canadian bacon were my kids’ favorite pizza topping for a long time. But they’ve grown out of it. Now they put on mango and spam.

I imagine you’re not referring to yourself, nor the poster directly above you. I think I know who you mean, but it’s the wrong topic and forum. If you’d like to open a pit thread I’ll join you.

Oh totally meant Exapno_Mapcase. Putting pineapple on pizza is worse than anything Trump ever did.

Spam as pizza topping? Hmm…

For best effect, slice it as thin as you can. It pairs well with peppers of any kind. (I’m not a fan of strongly sweet flavors on my pizza, but I don’t care what others put on their own.)

I remember the first time I had it, about thirty years ago. I thought it would be gross. Was actually very good. I still love it.

Yea, just because braces or fillings may be made of the same type of metal used for radio recievers, the reciever still has to be attached to speakers for sound to be heard, right?

Maybe not; before and even after the invention of the triode amplifier there were “crystal” radios which simply pulled in whatever signal was there. Those used headphones but maybe something in the braces setup was rectifying the signal into mechanical vibration?

Lactose! Stop the Intolerance!

Interesting.

What’s a speaker (or a human head) but flexible membranes surrounded by a hard shell?

OK, we have the antenna (the braces) and the tuner/receiver (also the braces, perhaps the way they are separated and some resonance, why not?), we have the speaker as you just described it (although I would have said that the membranes surround the hard skull, not the other way around, but that is just nitpicking around the bush), but where does the power come from? The radio is plugged into a socket or has a battery, but where are the anode and the cathode in a human’s head?
If you happen to have a filling in your teeth you may have experienced a tiny galvanic shock when biting on a piece of tin-foil: it makes you seriously jump. That makes me think that any power source in your mouth would not go unnoticed. What powers this brace-radio in your mouth?
Not saying it is impossible, but I have doubts.
