Yeah, it just means “colored” or “red” (depending on the context) in Spanish, and I imagine that there are quite a few “Red Rivers”, in the local language, in the world.
In addition to the one in Colorado - Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California have a Colorado River also.
Jolly joker!
Canyonlands National Park in central Utah contains a broad desert basin wherein the Green River merges with the Colorado River. This is not the same Green River that is featured in the John Prine song Paradise, nor is it the one with which a serial murderer was tagged.
Also not the Green River mentioned in the Credence Clearwater Revival song, which is not based on a river at all, but on a soft drink.
you appear to be misinfoamed
It’s true that I am making the perhaps wild assumption that John Fogarty knows what inspired the song that he wrote.
The man is an icon – not only can he plagarize himself, but he can also contradict himself.
Maybe that song belongs here.
Wyoming and New Mexico?
The Colorado River rises in Colorado, flows through Utah into Arizona, creates part of the border between Arizona and Nevada, and creates most of the border between Arizona and California. It doesn’t flow at all in either Wyoming or New Mexico. Are the other rivers named Colorado in those states?
Hm, I suppose it’s possible to reconcile Fogarty’s two stories, if the picture he saw in the drug store was actually a photo of Putah Creek.
But the Green is a very major feeder that rises in Wyoming and another major feeder, the San Juan, rises in New Mexico. They are not literally the Colorado, but they are non-small contributors to the flow that almost makes it to the Gulf of Calfornia.
By that definition, then, the Mississippi River flows in Pennsylvania.
Or that the Ohio river system flows out of Minnesota and Montana and Colorado and Texas. To me, the Ohio looks like the dominant river at Cairo.
The well known Rubicon in Italy is also a Red River. Some debate over what specific river was the Rubicon crossed by Julius Caesar in ancient Rome.
And. . . Mariska Hargitay has recently confirmed that Nelson Sardelli was indeed her bio-dad. This comes as no surprise to anyone who’s ever seen a pic of him. She looks like him more than she looks like her mom (Jayne Mansfield), although, it’s hard to see what she really looks like thru all the make-up.
BTW. . . SDMB member Eve has mentioned this numerous times that it was a long-held suspicion, and she has recently written the most researched bio on Jayne that wasn’t just based from press releases. Unfortunately, it went to print before this came out. I have a copy, but haven’t had a chance to dig into it yet.
The basin of a river includes all the area that drains into that river, not necessarily where the river itself flows. Which is why the basin of the Mississippi River includes parts of both Pennsylvania and Montana.
I’ll rephrase:
In addition to the one in Colorado - Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California have a Colorado River Basin also.
Weird way to say that all or parts of these states are in the Colorado River basin, but okay.
