In researching what the hell a “Mosquito Control Commissioner” was for my ballot, I learned all about “sentinel chickens”.
The relevant bit:
That’s Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV), in case you weren’t sure.

So it’s a canary in a coal mine, except it’s not a canary and there’s no mine.
Same basic principle, but without the “dying on the spot” thing.
Do they eat them after they’re infected, and do they taste better or worse?
Canaries were in fact used in British Coal mines all the way up to 1986:
“Mr Gambini, the next time you appear in my courtroom you will wear a suit made of CLOTH!”
Yes, it is.
Take it simply:
What is half of 99? 49.5, right?
Add one. The result it 50.5, the clear definition of a majority.
Can you come up with an example where 50% of the votes plus 1 does not yield a majority?
How about this: If N is the number of votes, 0.5N+1 is always greater than 0.5N.
In other news, are we all aware of our new temporary mini-moon?
On Sunday, Sept. 29, Earth captured a new "minimoon" called 2024 PT5. The bus-size asteroid is expected to orbit our planet for 57 days, but is too small to be visible to amateur skywatchers.

Should have been phased out much earlier, but they were heavily unionised. Birds of a feather do flock together after all.
The result it 50.5, the clear definition of a majority.
So by your definition of majority, 50.1 is not a majority. This can easily come up with using weighted votes.
Can you come up with an example where 50% of the votes plus 1 does not yield a majority?
That’s not the question. The question is is 50%+1 the definition of a majority or is always equal to the minimal majority needed.
Here is my counter to your logic/question. I define a majority as 100% of the vote. Can you come up with an example where 100% is not a majority? Therefore my definition is the correct one. Quod erat demonstratum.
In the interest of stopping this hijack, I am willing to continue the discussion here. Yes it should be an FQ but from what I’ve seen here it seems like more of a GD so I put it there.
The Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman.
The Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman.
Now I’m wondering how many countries are named for a specific individual.
First that comes to mind is Bolivia.
And Colombia
And America
Does China count? Is it named after its first emperor or just his dynasty?
El Salvador, named after Jesus
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
San Marino
Sao Tome and Principe
Saudi Arabia
Do nicknames count? Then The Virgin Islands after Elizabeth I. Which would incidently be another country named after a woman.
Saint Martin and Sint Maarten.
