Just thought that I would pass this along, in light of the silly anti-French sentiments that are swirling around of late. Note that this is one of those Bloggy Journal type thingies, so link may not work forever. that That is all.
Mostly pretty good reasons, too. Although, I think of them more are reasons to admire, rather than love, the French.
The United States would not have won the Revolutionary War. See Yorktown and other references.
Gotta argue with “The Food”. Horrible cheese, undercooked meat.
And they export those dreadful “Golden Delicious” apples.
The bread’s ok I suppose.
This double post thing is getting ridicolous.
My views are in the second link.
Cheese deserves its own number. Yay Fromage!
Don’t forget Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
Are we being whooshed? A Brit dissing French cuisine?
And the equally notable Jacques Cousteau… I can still hear his distinctive voice now: zee great white shark iz zee most playful of all ze sea creatures.

Paris.
What a city. Beautiful(amazingly so IMO) and it’s without question the best smelling city I’ve have ever been too. Clean too.
Vive la France
Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas, among others
I’ll second the gracious host thing. I’ve always been recieved with open arms by the French.
And the cheese
And the wine
And a beautiful arrangment of priorities-families first, jobs for people, not just to make money. Money is not the main drive of anything in France. It’s very refreshing. 2 hour lunches, 5 weeks of vacation, maternity leave.
Amazing art–Rodin, Monet, Renoir
Without France, the movie Casablanca would have been impossible
God, YES! The TGV is one of the most wonderful ways to travel in the world!
And dare I say it, one of the most beatiful languages spoken today.
OK, yes, I’m a Francophile. I admit it.
I’ll agree with Yojimbo about Paris. I was there three weeks ago for the first time and the city was stunning. Also, the food was excellent, and everyone was very gracious to us. (I was there with my wife and three children.) No one was rude at all. I hope to return some day.
Don’t forget The Statue of Liberty
