This song was the first that popped into my head when I read the OP. Your inclusion of it led me to investigate some of your other choices. I’m definitely liking this New Order one right now.

As for mine:

  1. “Lovefool” by The Cardigans - A perfectly crafted pop song if I’ve ever heard one
  2. “Modern Love” by David Bowie - I love the call and response
  3. “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads - Simply for David Byrne’s wailing at the end of the chorus
  4. “Take Five” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet - I can’t put my finger on why I love this one so much
  5. “Care of Cell 44” by The Zombies - “Feeeeeeeeels sooooo good, you’re coming hooooooooome sooooooooon!!!”
  6. “The Village Green Preservation Society” by The Kinks - I always get the part about Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety stuck in my head
  7. “Letter From an Occupant” by The New Pornographers - I love Neko Case’s voice, and it’s utilized well here
  8. “Damaged Goods” by Gang of Four - For the part when everything drops out except the drums and vocals
  9. “I Turn My Camera On” by Spoon - Again with the call and response
  10. “Lovely Rita” by The Beatles - The lyrics always get me, and it’s fun to sing along to

Here I was, expecting you to list “Beautiful” by Belle & Sebastian.
