And Down Goes Serena! To Sabine Lisicki. In three sets.
I guess that was loss everyone has been waiting for. She was bound to lose sometime. Oh well. That takes some pressure off her shoulders I suppose. Good on Sabine for outplaying her.
That was a wild third set. Serena broke to take a lead two different times and almost got a third, but Lisicki kept tying it up. Then she broke at 4-4 and served it out. She was really killing the ball and Serena couldn’t seem to get comfortable in the last set.
Yeah..wow.. give it up to Lisicki she never cracked.. oh wow.. my crush is done.. Have to wait till Murray plays Joko..
Slone Stephens is through, she needs to get some fire under her.
Murray through in straight sets again, but with a bit of a wobble losing 5 games in a row. He dug it out in the end.
Laura Robson is out, but we’ll see her again, and this past week will have improved her ranking considerably.
Damn. Now rooting for Sloane Stephens. Go Sloane!
Just watched the third set replay of the Williams/Lisicki match. I was really into it until ESPN helpfully scrolled across the bottom that Lisicki would be playing tomorrow.
That would suck. I might try to catch the replays of the Williams/Lisicki today.
I’m in NZ & its just too hard to watch anything but the Austraian Open live.
It stopped raining for the moment and the women’s semifinals are all set. Lisicki and Aggie Radwanska won their matches before the delay and will play in one semifinal. Bartoli just beat Stephen in a two-set serve breakathon, and Flipkens just upset Kvitova in three sets. It’s kind of weird to call anything an upset at this point, but two Grand Slam champions lost today and it’s now guaranteed that we will have a first-time champion here. The players in the semifinals are seeded 23rd, 4th, 15th, and 20th. Radwanska and Bartoli have both lost in one previous Wimbledon final, Lisicki has made the semis at Wimbledon once before, and Flipkens has never made it this far at a slam before.
I only saw a bit of the Li Na v Ag Radwanska 3rd set. Li Na played as lackluster a match as I’ve ever seen her. Of course, Radwanska played outstanding defense, putting balls back that would have been winners against anyone else.
Sorry I missed Sloane Stephens play. Would have liked to see her win, but Bartoli is such an odd duck that I find myself rooting for her.
Radwanska / Bartoli is my dream final. I would love to see Aggie win, but I also love Bartoli, so would be happy no matter what.
Del Porto through , buh bye Berdych.
That’s Del Potro vs. Djokovic in one semifinal- a rematch of the bronze medal match from the Olympics. Del Potro won that one, but it was best-of-three. I have nothing against Djokovic but I’d be happy to see Del Potro get through and establish himself as a contender at majors again. That 2009 U.S. Open win feels like it was a long time ago but he’s younger than Murray and Djokovic- he’ll be 25 after the U.S. Open.
Uh-oh. Andy down two sets. Poor serving and tons of unforced errors, and it looks like his head has gone.
Wow. It’s nice to see a Verdasco revival, but Murray hadn’t lost a set all tournament. Meanwhile Jerzy Janowicz also has a two-set lead. I’m pretty sure nobody predicted that semifinal matchup. If it holds up, the winner of Del Potro-Djokovic is going to be an overwhelming favorite.
Yeah, I’ll be cheering for Del Potro in that one, despite having no problem with
Djoker.
I still give Andy a shot at Verdasco, despite being down two sets.
He’s falling apart out there.
He gets down another break, I predict he’ll start clutching his back.
This
Murray is up at break in the third set at 4-1. And he does have the physical endurance to pull off a comeback. We’ll see how Verdasco holds up.
