Murray wins the set 6-1.
OK Andy, that’s better - takes the third 6-1. He seems to have relaxed a bit.
And Murray wins the fourth set 6-3.
Nitpick: 6-4.
And Murray broke to open the 5th. This is one of those matches I don’t want anyone to lose.
I thought it was 6-4 and then went back and changed before I posted. Oh well. They’re on serve in the fifth with Verdasco up 2-1.
Urghhhh this is tense.
Murray just got out of a little trouble and it’s 4-4 in the fifth. We’re now at the stage where one break can end the match.
I keep rooting for whoever is serving. This one is going to end in complete heartbreak for someone.
Match of the tournament, for me!
And Murray breaks!!!
Holy crap!
And he serves for it.
And he wins it!!!
Murray wins! Hell of a comeback.
Excellent match by Verdasco and a nice exchange at the net.
See?
I’ll console Jarah!
That Lisicki-Radwanska match was a classic! 9-7 in the third and it’s Bartoli vs. Lisicki for the championship on Saturday. That ought to be an interesting matchup.
There’s been a lot of complaining about the state of American tennis (nevermind that the women’s #1 is an American), but the Bryans just made the final and they are one match away from a non-calendar Grand Slam. They also won gold at the Olympics last year. They’ll play Melo and Dodig on Saturday and if they win that, they’ll not only have a non-consecutive Grand Slam, they’ll be 3/4 of the way to winning the Grand Slam in 2013. Heady stuff.
That was a nice example of those reversals I like so much in tennis: Djokovic had four break points on Del Potro’s serve and the game must’ve lasted seven or eight minutes and it looked like he was going to break through and crack the match open, but the Wolfman held on and then immediately broke Djokovic at love. He leads 5-3 in the second and it looks like it’s going to be a set all.
Del Potro is having the time of his life out there, hamming it up for the crowd. We need more players willing to have fun with the game. He and Djokovic are a good match-up for crowd pleasing.
The quality on both sides of the net from both Djokovic & Del Potro is incredible.
If Del Potro wins this - I like his odds for the trophy.
This is fantastic stuff. Del Potro saved three set points at 0-40 and they’re now in a tiebreak. It’s 4-2 Djokovic now- Del Potro had the last point won, but he hit an overhead right to Djokovic and couldn’t put away a lob.
Djokovic won the tiebreak 7-2. Del Potro suddenly looked kind of tired those last few points.
Seriously - where does Djokovic find that extra gear? It’s impressive. That was a great tie break considering he blew the break with a boneheaded shot selection at 30-40.
Great semi! Thought that after Del Potro lost the first set on his serve, it was all over…on to the fourth set! Good stuff!
