Williams Suarez Navarro 6-0 3-0. Just embarrassing to watch. Only got TV on in hopes of getting a glimpse of the doubles.
6-0 6-0
Embarrassing.
And it wasn’t as close as the score made it look. Serena is completely locked in right now. In her first five matches she’s lost five games and had her serve broken once. I’ve always liked Li and I hope she can at least make a match of it.
Richard Gasquet has a two-set lead on David Ferrer. If he wins, he’ll be in a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time since Wimbledon in 2007. As a matter of fact this is his first quarterfinal since then. He’s always been kind of erratic and unreliable mentally, but it really says something about the talent at the top of the men’s field at that guy can be as good as Gasquet (when he’s on) and fail to even make a quarterfinal for six years.
Azarenka’s outfit makes her look like a sack of potatoes. Really, Nike? Who green lighted that outfit?
Poor Suarez Navarro got her ass kicked by Serena. I was at dinner so thank goodness I didn’t have to watch that bloodletting.
Poor Ferrer! He dug in and came back, only to fade in the 5th. Argh!
I’m a new fan of Istomin. He had a great attitude v Murray. He looked glad to be there.
Nadal is creaming Robredo. Nadal is a freaking beast out there.
Still haven’t seen Djokovic play at all, but I’m hoping for an incredible finale.
Someone needs to tell Robredo the match has started.
Never mind. He lost 6-0 6-2 6-2.
I wish Federer had made it through.
This. And Serena’s outfit too. Very unflattering to their figures.
Why do (almost) all the women Tennis players wear the same outfit for every match? I can understand why the guys do, because they change shirts several times a match but the gals are basically locked into one outfit for the entire match.
Women golfers would not be caught dead wearing the same outfit every day.
Quite a few writers/fans have said that Fed tanked that one in order to avoid further embarrassment vs Nadal and his own claim to fame. Not sure I fully agree, but it’s not that far-fetched. Rafa simply owns Roger in ALL surfaces other than the unusual indoor carpet. 21-10, Rafa’s bitch.
Think Gasquet might get many more games than Tommy? This is Rafa in annihilation mode. If Djokovic makes the Final, there will be fight – though Rafa has to be favored what with the longest winning streak on hard courts in his career. He’s the only player that can push Nadal today. OTOH, Murray can take it to Novak, so he, (Djokovic) is not there (Final) yet. OTOH, I give Murray a 10/20% chance if he faces Rafa in the Final. This is not Rafa in 2010.
I see no reason for Rafa not winning & trashing everyone for his second US Open – of course nothing is written in stone. Especially in sports. Never mind Rafa’s 11-0 vs what’s his face? Gasquet? Awesome one-handed backhand notwithstanding. Take a pic or or three if you are there.
Two to go.
Vamos Rafa!!!
Yes it is. It’s totally asinine.
Bryan bros in trouble.
+1
Waiting for Murray to start clutching his back.
Wawrinka takes a two-set lead over Murray. He’s been playing very well lately but I can’t say I saw this coming.
Wawrinka is up the break. If he wins, I’m cheering for him to win the tournament.
Wawrinka secures a second break and serves for the match. He’s never made the semifinals in a Grand Slam event before: he’s 4-9 in fourth-round matches and 0-3 in the quarterfinals. I expect Djokovic is going to sweep Youzhny aside without a lot of trouble, so the next match will be a tall order. He looks good right now, though.
EDIT: And that’s it! A breakthrough moment and a surprisingly easy win for Wawrinka.
The Williams sisters are in the doubles semifinals, by the way. It looks like Serena is in line for two more championships this weekend.
Woo hoo Wawrinka!
Surprise surprise!
Novak, on the other hand, wins. He did lose the third set, but then went 6-0 in the fourth.
And we have our first U.S. Open champions: Max Mirnyi and Andrea Hlavackova won the mixed doubles title over Spears and Gonzalez. The women’s semis will start soon.
Has Serena decided she’s just not going to lose any more games? She’s up 5-0 on Li in the first set.
And there’s the first set. 6-0 in 29 minutes. Her first set against Suarez Navarro took 19 minutes, so I guess this was much more competitive. I want to see Li win some more and get another major, but I don’t think this is her day. Can Azarenka keep it close if Serena plays like this?
