I think Murray is a one trick pony when it comes to winning any other major. He mentally breaks down too easily.
Stan one the first set from Roger. Djoko is falling all over the place.

I’m not sure what you mean here. He’s won two majors and made the finals five other times. I’m not sure what happened against Dimitrov, who is now going to be ranked above Murray, but it’s worth remembering that Murray has been struggling with a back injury.
Well, after last years Wimbledon, he hasn’t won another major, he’s done well, but not like the others. He doesn’t play well if he’s behind. He carries his mistakes with him throughout a match. Yes, the back injury is a concern. (I put in Dimitrov and the spell check said dimwit :D). Dimitrov is on fire, Murray draw was nothing like the other top seeds, Dimitrov was his first real challenge. IMO.
That’s true. Injuries are part of the problem but it also seems like he’s struggled with his focus. He was otherwise good during this tournament, so we’ll see what happens next.
Djokovic is in the semifinals as Cilic faded; Novak won the last two sets 6-2, 6-2. Federer just leveled his match against Wawrinka by winning a tiebreak in the second set. On another note, the women’s semifinals are set:
Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [13] vs. Simona Halep (ROU) [3]
Lucie Safarova (CZE) [23] vs. Petra Kvitova (CZE) [6]
I like the winner of Halep-Bouchard to win the whole thing, but of course Kvitova did win this tournament three years ago. Interesting times for the men and the women!
I don’t usually care much for tennis, but I’m sure liking what fellow Canadians Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic are doing lately. Fantastic stuff!
Slugfest Raonic-Kyrgios
Federer reaches the semis with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. Kyrgios won the first set off Raonic in a tiebreak, but Raonic seems to have found his footing and broke twice in the second set. No matter how this one shakes out, the semis are going to pit two guys with tremendous resumes against two up and comers. A Djokovic-Federer final seems like the most likely outcome, but then again we could get Dimitrov against Raonic or Kyrgios with a guaranteed first-time major winner.
Federer just knocked out Australian champ and good friend Stan Wawrinka.
Fed. looks solid.
I just want to say that today is the golden age of Canadian tennis.
Now that Murray’s out, I hope Federer wins. I much prefer his game to Djokovic’s. And on grass has to be his best chance of victory (I have long thought that Wimbledon is Fed’s most realistic chance of getting another slam). Could be an interesting final if they both win their semis.
Bouchard reaches the finals. Wow!
To say that Genie Bouchard is a rising star in Canada would be kind of like saying the Pacific Ocean is a large body of water. It’s really understating the case. I’ve never seen a pro athlete get so famous so fast.
She is probably already the favourite to win the Lou Marsh Trophy (the award given every year to Canada’s greatest athlete) and if she actually wins Wimbledon you can pretty much get it engraved right away. Even is Milos Raonic wins too.
It is interesting to note that Bouchard is 20, an age at which it used to be maybe you were peaking. It was once not uncommon for teens to be the world’s #1 on the women’s side. Martina Hingis was a #1 at 17. Monica Seles was #1 at 18. Tracy Austin was 18, I believe, when she hit #1. There’ve been some 20 and 21 year olds.
I think those days are behind us, though, in part because the women’s game is now requiring more power than ever, and power matures. Peak strength comes later than a woman’s teens. Bouchard’s 5’10" and visibly very strong, and I suspect in a few years she will be stronger still as she matures, so as good as her recent run has been I think her best tennis is still a year or two away, at least. It’s kind of hard to imagine Martina Hingis dominating women’s tennis now; I’m not saying she was a bad athlete, obviously she was not, but she didn’t look much more athletic than any random high schooler. In today’s game she’d be at a significant physical disadvantage. Hingis is a weird case, I will grant, because she was a sort of Wayne Gretzky type athlete who could just play any sport she wanted with a sort of natural understanding, but today’s women’s tennis players are just plainly WAY stronger than they used to be. Bouchard has that inherent power, and likes to use it, and I think she’ll get a bit stronger yet.
I’ve sometimes wondered if one of the reasons Martina Navratilova was so astoundingly dominant is that she was simply ahead of the curve in terms of her dedication to training and strength.
The Old Guard is not going away easily. Djokovic vs Federer on Sunday. Should be a great match.
And it’s hard not to like Bouchard on a personal level since she comes off very well in the press.
Federer was just too much for Raonic today. Dimitrov had his chances against Djokovic but couldn’t quite pull through. Things have broken just about perfectly for Federer at this tournament: he’s only lost one set and even his semifinal wasn’t all that grueling. He’ll never get a better shot at major #18 than this.
Subtitled, forward to the past.:rolleyes::dubious:
I like Fed, but he should hang up now.
Why? He just made the Wimbledon final and has never missed a Grand Slam in his career.
I think the stage was too much for Raonic, who started right into it making unforced errors.
Somewhat, but he wasn’t bad. His serve percentage might’ve been a little off, but he wound up with 36 winners and 17 errors (Federer had 32:11). I think Federer just has that knowledge of how to hang in there and wait for your opportunities against a top-level opponent, and he didn’t give Raonic any looks on his serve.
So, is anyone going to hazard a guess as to what the hell was up with Serena Williams?
Serena Being Serena?
