Tennis 2016

The Australian Open begins Monday. Will anyone be able to be Djokovic?

Will Stan win another Slam? Will Federer manage to win another one?

Murray is quitting the tournament if his wife goes into labor. Lots of folks are praying his wife has the baby during the next two weeks.

Leaked Documents Indicate Major Match-Fixing In Tennis, Including By Grand Slam Winners

Well, there’s this guy from Serbia, first name of Novak, that might be able to manage it.

Here’s a detailed BuzzFeed article about the match-fixing issue.

Ha ha. Beat. My bad.

I hope this issue is dealt with clearly and openly.

And…Nadal is out in the first round.

Not sure if this thread is only about the men’s singles.
But if not- Petra Kvitova will win. No way Serena Williams will last through 7 matches.

Wow, Venus out in the first round.

Just looking at the Men’s rankings and the age of the top 50 players and it looks like the top players are getting older

As of today, only 7 players out of the top 50 is under age 25 and only one under 20

10 years ago, I think there were 26 players of the top 50 were under age 25 and three under age 20.

Kvitova is out; Serena won her 2nd round match easily.

Lleyton Hewitt has retired as a player.

Why would this be only about mens’ singles? Of course the women are included.

Federer won his 300th Grand Slam match. First man to do it.

And Stan Wawrinka is out.

I missed it, but the Bryan brothers also lost. Third round, quite rare for them.

Good for Milos. I was only able to watch the fourth set, and I thought he had let it get away from him.

Murray-Raonic is in the fifth set, and looks to have been a hell of a game. But Murray is well in front now as Raonic struggles with a groin strain.

This thread is about all tennis, but I’ve gradually given up on women’s tennis over the past decade. I find it dull, now. Most of my posts will be about men’s tennis.

Serena Williams, Australian Open champion 2016…

is what we all expected. But, nope, she lost the final to Angelique Kerber. Congrats to Kerber for defeating one of the toughest opponents out there.

Maybe there is a Sports Illustrated Cover Curse after all…
