Federer and Nadal wins the first two Grand Slams of the year.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
So far this year, they are the two ranking points leaders of the 2017 calendar year. They could end the year ranked #1 and #2.
Rafa still has more tics than a mangy stray dog.
Stan never showed up for that match.
Please. Nadal’s “only” 79-2 historically @RG, while the second best record @65-16 belongs to Fed. Also the third time he wins w/out losing a set, plus least number of games given. Meaning that it would take Og Himself to show-up with a racket to give Nadal a match, never mind beat him.
Hyperbole? Nope. The most dominant player over one surface the world’s ever seen in his most dominant display ever. At 31. Take that in for a sec…
Yeah, I’m not a fan of Rafa as a player, but huge respect to him for his achievements. He is the absolute boss on clay.
Why not a fan? Playstyle?
Nadal is skipping Queens. Resting up for Wimbledon.
Yup, find the raw power from the baseline a bit repetitive. Though oddly, I could watch Sampras serve for hours. Roger (and, rather less gracefully, Murray) are much more interesting with the variety they throw in. Also, I find Rafa dawdles between points (he bounces the ball way too many times before serving). And has he found underwear that fits yet, so he doesn’t have to remove it from his crack every other point?
Some great tennis this year, in part because the seemingly indomitable Djokovic has suddenly fallen apart. What in the world is going on with this guy? He seems to be in some sort of emotional anguish. I’ve heard that his wife is extremely disliked by everyone, but that wouldn’t explain why he fired his entire team, would it? He’s known for his fierce loyalty so it’s just a very odd thing, and troubling for a guy that used to have this joie de vivre about him.
Federer winning Australia and Nadal winning the French…who would have ever predicted this result a year ago?
I keep hoping that Nadal will adapt his game and start throwing in more drop shots or coming in behind one of his incredible shots…yet he’s as content as a bug on a rug to just keep slugging it out on the baseline. I could understand it if he was weak at the net, but he’s not. Argh!
Fed and Nadal once again in a Wimbledon finale. Is that too much to hope for?
On the women’s side, with both Serena and Kerber out, it seemed to open up the field for someone like Halep. But it was painful to watch her fall apart. Ostapenko is just a little pistol.
And may I say as an aside that I love my DirecTV service that allows me to watch other courts? I love that feature!
I love that feature during the majors! But I get frustrated with what Tennis Channel can or chooses to show sometimes during “regular” tournaments. I finally caved in and bought a year of Tennis Channel Plus when I got a coupon through the USTA. I used it a bit during the FO and liked some things about it (and found some others frustrating). We’ll see how I feel throughout the year.
Wimbledon draw is tomorrow.
Wonder if Venus Williams plans to play? She is alleged to be at fault in a auto accident where a man died in Palm Beach Florida.
(Caution: Link with an autoplay video)
Two defaults on Central Court…fans should be unhappy. Fed and Nole get the Ws.
The latest is that she WASN’T at fault, because a KIA turned left in front of her, causing her to finish exiting the intersection after the light turned red. Either way, it must be awful to be involved in a fatal accident, whether you’re deemed to be at fault or not.
I would love to see her win Wimbledon again.
Bethanie Matteck-Sands’ injury was awful. I don’t see her coming back. Very disheartening because she’s a fun player to watch.
Looks like the Top 4 are rising to the top in the men’s game.
A dislocated kneecap and a ruptured patella tendon, reportedly. No wonder she was in so much distress :o
Aw, so Rafa is out. Muller was solid as a rock in that match. I’m really bummed but life goes on.
Milos got through as well, which makes us Canadians happy. If he wants to win the title now, it’s just a simple matter of beating Fed, Novak, and Murray in succession :).
Yep… Querrey takin’ to Murray
It had been a while since we’ve had an American man make it to a major semi-final, right?
Yep!
Mueller is holding his own.
Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009 was the last one.
Djokovic retires hurt (and Murray probably should have too).
