Berrettini is 6-6 this year, though that may be all hard courts. He’s probably better on clay.
Does Medvedev really live in Monte Carlo as opposed to doing the minimum to maintain a tax home there?

I’m not sure, and it’s especially unclear for pro tennis players, who travel constantly. But it’s widely reported that Medvedev lives in Monte Carlo.
Some quick googling finds that he trains at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, closer to Cannes, than Monte Carlo itself.
I have now watched the match and I see no indication that Medvedev wasn’t trying to win. Berrettini was playing well, but not spraying winners all over the place. Medvedev was just having a really bad day at the office. Making tons of errors and making really bad choices. His high risk style of play (hits little or no topspin so his net clearance is really low) and his temperament these days just made a day like this possible.
Very different from the ladies final at Wimbledon where Anisimova was clearly both physically exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed by the occasion. Then she ran into an opponent who was in scorching form.
Djokovic and Sinner have both been bounced from the French Open.
Sinner in the second round suffering mightily from the heat.
Djokovic in the third round to a stunning comeback from teenager Fonseca. All of a sudden we have Fonseca and Jodar as serious title contenders, which I would not have said 48 hours ago.
Zverev must think Christmas has come early.
Fonseca played a great game. And another young player advanced, 27th seed Jakub Mensik, who beat 8th seed Alex de Minaur.
Zverev is on several lists of high seeded players who have never won a slam title. I saw speculation that he could choke again, but it looks like he’s playing dominantly today. I’ve seen him live once, when he lost to Taylor Fritz at the 2024 US Open quarter finals, and he wasn’t happy at Fritz being the crowd favorite.
After Novak lost, no one in the Men’s draw has ever won a Slam.
I heard Serena (age 44) wants to play Doubles at the Queens Cup with Canadian Victoria Mboko.
More upsets. Defending champion Coco Gauff was ousted by 28th seed Anastasia Potapova, a Russian player who started playing for Austria a few months ago.
3rd seed and 4 time champion Iga Swiatek lost to 15th seed Marta Kostyuk.
So now there are no previous champions left in either the men’s or women’s singles draws. There’s a previous Slam winner, though, Aryna Sabalenka, who has Australian Open and US Open wins.
About Serena Williams playing doubles, Venus was in the women’s and mixed doubles at the US Open last year.
Venus continues to be active on the WTA circuit, She has played 5 tourneys this year in Singles and lost in the first round every time. She also played Singles in last years US Open and this years Australian Open. Losing in the first round in both events.
Remarkably Sinner is still the prohibitive betting favorite. He took five sets to beat the 50th ranked Kevmanovic, and looked anything but convincing. His recent fitness record isn’t encouraging. But both punters and commentators are unshaken in their support.
Another Wimbledon under way. Always had a somewhat jaundiced view of comeback bids - Serena Williams lost her first round match in three sets to Maya Joint, an American currently ranked 87 (ATP). The singles match was the 44-year-old Williams’s first since the 2022 US Open in which she lost in the third round. At the Queen’s Club Tourney earlier this month, her doubles appearance was her first appearance on a court in 1,375 days.
Old timer “Stanimal” (nickname courtesy Roger) Warinka also went out first round.

Would you like me to move this to the general Tennis 2026 thread?
I guess so. Thanks.
Maya Joint is from Australia.
It was a heckuva match. Joint had a match point in the second set, but Serena came back to win the set in a tiebreaker, 8-6. But too many unforced errors cost her the match.
Oops, thanks. ![]()
Saw these jackasses in the stands - they’re awesome!!!
We truly live in the weirdest timeline.
Hilarious! Did “Borg” and “McEnroe” attract much attention?
No idea to what extent they’ve attracted attention.
In the game I watched, every time they showed “John” in the stands he was on his phone. ![]()
Interesting that Sunday used to be a “sacred” day of rest, but since 2022 Wimbledon has stopped that tradition, with Sinner and Djokovic matches today, as well as Osaka vs. Sabalenko. (Hopefully Osaka can fend off Sabalenko’s serving onslaught.)
Sabalenka?
Ah, yes.
Apparently Tiafoe holds the longest active streak of Major appearances with 39. Would never have guessed that.
