The part about “dealing friends”, what does it mean?

It never ends
It would seem to me the narrator in the song is the hired hand having an affair with the boss’s wife. And he has become friends with the boss and feels guilty about covering up the affair they’re carrying on.
At least that’s the meaning I get out of it. Others’ interpretations may differ.
I kinda got from it the whole after-breakup dividing of friends routine.
It means screwing over your friend by sleeping with his wife.
