Must kinda suck for Colibri that this stuff is preserved for people to find. Much harder to pick a story that works.
Sure.
Can YOU accept that two posters whose “different histories” include one with a strong conservative bent might end up with an “individual history” with more notes and warnings because the board culture regards those views as self-evidently wrong and mods are about as liberal as the board culture?
Moderator Action
I’ve been sick all weekend, so forgive me for not responding in a more timely manner.
I did receive your post report, and DSeid’s “Brickering” comment was out of line. I chose not to moderate it partly because I didn’t want to get too heavy handed with the moderation as that would end up stifling any actual board issue that was being discussed. I also felt that if I modded that particular comment that it would not be fair if I did not mod the numerous other comments in this thread that are not really within the bounds of polite and civil conversation as required in ATMB.
I had hoped that with that mod note that you guys would pull back a bit and stay within the rules of ATMB.
Had you responded tit-for-tat, I probably would have issued you both a warning and closed the thread as being a lost cause, unable to stay within the rules of this forum.
I try to be a bit understanding about politeness, because I do understand that folks sometimes come in here because they are upset about something, and being upset, they sometimes don’t behave the way that they should and would behave if they were less upset.
That said, this thread has turned into too much of a bitch-fest. There may have been a point somewhere in here about moderator bias, but that bias hasn’t been anywhere near proven, and whatever points there were to be made have all been lost in the snippy comments.
I try to keep threads open in ATMB even when folks misbehave, just to make sure that whatever issue might be there gets discussed. Considering everyone’s behavior in this thread, I think the issues have been discussed about as well as they are going to be. And since this thread has otherwise turned into a train wreck of snippy comments, I think we’re done here.
Thread closed.
Since this regards the question of whether there is a requirement to read all the posts in a thread before responding to it, I am reopening the thread momentarily to respond to it, lest the misinformation posted appear to be justified. As I said, a poster may be expected to look back a reasonable number of posts for instructions. Given that 1) the thread cited was only ten posts long at the time Saint Cad made his post; 2) my instructions were in post #6; and 3) they were quoted in post #8, made over 10 hours earlier than Saint Cad’s, there was no excuse not to see the instructions. This case indicates that posters might be expected to glance a couple of posts back, not that they are required to “read all the posts in a thread.”
