Maybe I’ve just missed it, but I’m sure at one point when users got banned or suspended and there was an announcement post in ATMB that post had links to warnings, mod notes, etc. being cited as the cause. Did that custom change?
Moderator discretion?
Moderator time, mostly. At least on my part.
I guess so! I did a quick check back through ATMB and assuming my searches work right you personally have only supplied a link once (and I’d quibble with that one) when announcing disciplinary stuff for posters.
Anyway, I ask basically for those same reasons! It’d take me or another poster far longer to try and search through for warning and so on being cited, if we could even find it. I assume in the mod loop somewhere you keep links to the bad behaviour of posters in order to refer to them when considering that kind of action, so purely on that basis it’d be a real help if they could be provided. It’s extremely helpful.
Ill try to add them in the future.
Meanwhile, you can see anyone’s warning by clicking on their username, going to their profile and clicking on the infractions tab. Try it on mine. You’ll see I picked one up a while ago.
Infractions tab doesn’t show for non-mods.
I don’t think normal posters can see other people’s warning tab. That’d be kind of uncool if you could. I appreciate listing the infractions since it makes it transparent what they’re getting banned for.
Huh. I did not know that. I can’t list them right now for Terr’s suspension but I’ll get to it and I’ll list them in future announcements. How’s that?
Sounds good to me, at least! Thanks for taking your time to answer this.
He won’t list them as then it would be obvious that they’re all bullshit warnings for being too right-wing. But hey, anything to make the echo chamber better, right?
That’s helpful.
Since it’s late, and I’m up anyway, I’ll go ahead and post the links to Terr’s warnings:
Off-topic political swipe in GQ.
That’s just from this year.

Okay, this is tedious. I’m using google, and it’s a pain in the ass to wade through every result for “Terr” “warning”.
I think these are a fair sampling that the warnings are earned for rules infractions, not for being right-wing.
CURSES! Shakes fist at Marley
If certain left-wing posters didn’t do the same on a daily basis, you’d have a point. Not that this is entirely the mods’ fault, as to some extent they are going on reports, but it’s clear that what’s considered a snarky dig if one person does it is considered a personal insult in other cases.
Those are the posts that got Terr in trouble. Here are the actual warnings that resulted:
Speaking as an unapologetic lefty. All but two of those warnings posted were total bull shit. Steophan right, I see this sort of snark go on all the time unchallenged. That said, I don’t know if this has anything to do with left vs right but there does seem to be a discrepancy in Terr’s moderation.
Admittedly, Terr has never pinged my radar, so maybe there’s something there that I’m not seeing.
Surely you mean Miller.
(and I won’t call you Shirley anymore)
Dude, it’s a total win for Miller. He does the work of providing the ninja treatment on Irishman and Marley gets the blame!
What more could anyone ask?
Steophan, if you think that left-wing posters get away with such behavior, then the remedy is simple: Report those posts when you see them. The moderators don’t actually read every word of the board, and may simply not have noticed them. If you are noticing them, then you have a great opportunity to help them out.
Steophan, snitches don’t get stitches here. If you see a rules infraction, report it.
