It wasn’t recreational grief. It was actual grief.
Searching that way must not work very well, because Diogenesis the Cynic was still posting in Jan of 14, and had nearly 59,000 posts before he was banned.
Best I recall, one previous moderator had given him two warnings in the many years he had been here. Not long after you become moderator, you give him five warnings in a row, while other moderators didn’t bother.
Diogenes the Cynic was banned on September 15, 2011.
This. It seems we have eleventy billion gun threads floating around the boards here, and yet this particular one couldn’t be left alone to be what it actually was, by a select handful of posters to make it just more political ranting. Why? Because even though they were told reportedly, they just didn’t want to. But there is no reason at all that they couldn’t control themselves. Zero, zip, nada.
You might want to consider that your empathy is calibrated differently than some.
Wow, a first. A memorial thread to those who have fallen in the line of posting.
I’m thinking about doing a TerrBrainGlutton for Thanksgiving. Anybody have any tips?
Marinate Terr in a sweet marinade to hide the bitterness. The BrainGlutton portion will need some extra pounding because its old and stringy.
Make sure you have a large enough roasting ban. And pick up some Russian Dressing as a dipping sauce. If you’re conservative on the portions, you should have lots of left-overs.
And all of them were started by this one guy who joined 2 days ago.
Stuff with link sausage. And like most sausage, content unknown or uncertain.
Ah, then you’ll need to call it TerrBrainGluttonCommissar.
No, it isn’t. The topic is an actual tragedy that happened to actual human beings the OP personally knew, not whatever you and Terr think it was.
Oh, bravo!
I assumed as well hence the “just in case.” In actuality I’m sure it was because Terr was an Israeli. Alessan is all we need and I’m sure he wished Terr had stayed off this board and out of Israel.
Since you seem to believe that Michael Dunn, the bigot convicted of murdering a teenager for playing loud music was the victim of political correctness and have praised the killing of the “thug”, I’m not sure what your definition of “left wing” is.
I might add that I’m not sure how many of our mods are “left wing”.
US definition or European?
According to most complaining posts, we have a hive mind and are so far left that we sailed off the edge of the Earth.
This board skews very left by any standards, to the point where dissenting opinions are ridiculed then sometimes silenced, if people aren’t very careful when and where to express those views. It’s abundantly clear that the majority here either want it that way, or just don’t notice it and thus deny it when it’s pointed out, and as was pointed out earlier in the thread that is one reason why the board is dying.
5 years ago when I joined it was still possible to have a reasonable debate without it being stifled. Now, they only happen in the Pit, with all the attendant unpleasantness.
I’ll no doubt keep reading here, it’s always interesting and worthwhile to see what those you disagree with think and why they think it, but posting here has gone from being enjoyable to tedious and at times actually unpleasant, mostly due to the presumption that only some views are worthy of respect. Showing that a view is wrong or dangerous or whatever is one thing, nut it’s the presumption here that’s the problem.
Anyway, I don’t expect anything will change, and I hope people enjoy feeling like they’ve won the argument by silencing one dissenting voice and discouraging others. The real world will soon show otherwise, for those who care to watch it.
Good point.
I suspect if the definition of left wing is “believes that hurricanes are caused by high barometric pressure, not by a God angry over the success of the gay marriage movement” the answer is all are left-wing.
In all seriousness, there are some social issues, most notably gay marriage where it seems the mods are largely in agreement, but how far does one take that.
I’m pretty sure there are no mods who agree with denying women the vote or forbidding black and white people from getting married.
It’s so mind-bogglingly wrong to me that those posts were “on topic” that I have to ask you what your reasoning is. The thread was about mourning the death of people, some of whom the OP actually knew. Why on earth would a gun control debate be “on topic”? Do you know how many threads we’ve had on that subject? That there is an ongoing Pit thread about it? Please explain this, because it makes absolutely no sense to me.
And… as already noted, the warnings went to posters on both sides of the issue, including one lefty who was suspended.
