I came across an ad for TerraPass in my National Geographic magazine. Apparently the schtick is that you calculate how much CO2 emissions your vehicle chugs out every year based on age, make, model and the number of miled driven annually. The idea is that the money you pay for a TerraPass goes into funding “green” energy sources like wind and solar power.
I calculated my vehicle to see how my CO2 is produces, about 6000 lbs, and the cost for a TerraPass for it would be 39.95 (less than the cost of a tank of gas).
I was wondering, before buy a TerraPass to off set my carbon output, if anyone has ever used/currently use this? Is is a scam to make people feel less guilty about driving their cars? How much of the cost for the TerraPass goes to overhead versus supporting/funding green enery sources?
Just wondering.
