Terry Pratchett dead at 66.

From what I understand, he’s set his daughter up to continue writing *Discworld *novels. Hopefully they’ll be good.

I heartily agree. Those books hit me particularly hard.

The only author I can think of off the time of my head that continued to get stronger and better with every book.

If The Shepherd’s Crown is to be published in September, then it has already been delivered to the publisher.

As for more Discworld from Rhianna…don’t count on it. She has repeatedly stated that she will not continue the books, but will only deal with spin-offs, games and the like.

An ad for a BBC program on the right of that page has the head of a turtle. How appropriate.

Damn. Goodbye, Sir Terry.

Sir Terry Pratchett

Fitting.

“KINGS GET THE SWORD. IT’S A ROYAL WOSSNAME, PREROGATIVE.”

Mort

Well, fuck. And it had been such a good day so far, too :/.
Hopefully Death will escort him where he believes he deserves to go - probably a warm and cozy place with lots of fizzy drinks with umbrellas in 'em, albeit also chock full of ill-tempered cats.

I hope so, and that he does not end up right back in this world saying to himself, “This is --ing good wood!”

I’m in the middle of Jingo right now.

Last night my wife asked me what I was reading.

My answer, “It’s by that English guy I like, about that city, it’s fiction. Remember I told my Dad to start reading them? It’s funny…I’m not adequately explaining this at all.”

Thankfully, Mr. Pratchett was much better with words than I am.

I’m deeply saddened.

Very sad indeed, I can’t think of an author whose work has given me more hours of pleasure.

Thanks Sir Terry.

Same here. I wouldn’t have expected to be hit by the news like this, but…damn.

For a certainty.

And those of us living in the U.S. can write our Congresscritters and demand that Alzheimer’s research get as much funding as can be put to good use. From what I’ve been reading lately, there are several promising lines of research, but the funding is far from adequate to pursue them expeditiously.

In 15 years, when the first Baby Boomers start reaching their mid-80s, this is gonna hit us like a tidal wave. We will have way more Alzheimer’s patients than we have now, unless we figure out some way to cure or ameliorate it, or at least postpone its effects. They should be attacking this the way they went after the Y2K bug in the 1990s.

Terry’s name is going up and down the Clacks, from tower to tower.

Crappity crap crap CRAP!

I’ve been saving Raising Steam for my vacation in two weeks, largely because I suspected there wouldn’t be much else likely to come along. Nothing about that makes this any less upsetting.

RIP, sir.

Good thinking. I rather envy you as you get to read them all for the first time.

Here’s a link to the most current reading guide I could find. You might find it useful.

I’m weeping buckets for some reason. I do hope there will be at least one more book, but then after that there will be no more.

Was it ever confirmed that he used to lurk here?

God, I hope not. We don’t need another Brian Herbert out there.

The Shepherd’s Crown is due to be released June 23rd. It’s the last novel, and a Tiffany Aching one.

yeah, this wrecked my whole day too.
