Hmmm…I never tried to do quotes before…here I go boldly into the unknown!
Well I always write “spelled”. But in the past when I tried persuading the kabbess that she was wrong to write “spelt” and looked in the dictionary to prove it, not only did I find that either spelling is correct, I found that “spelt” was down as the more usual choice!
That was in Chambers British English.
