Texas forces doctors to lie to patients

Or, “Some legislators without any hint of medical training believe that an abortion may raise your risk of breast cancer. I, with all my years of training and experience, disagree.”

QtM–you are, of course correct; “cured” is technically incorrect. This guy, though, had a documented HbA1C three years ago of 19.9, which is the highest any of my attendings has ever seen (and certainly the highest I’ve seen). This admission, some 150-200 pounds lighter, his A1C was 7.0, and he hasn’t taken a doctor-prescribed medication since September of last year. (His ejection fraction, unfortunately, is another story.)

Dr. J

Don’t women tend to put on weight during pregnancy? And a proportion of them do not lose all of that weight? And can’t overweight lead to diabetes, cancer and heart disease?

So why aren’t doctors required to tell women that not having an abortion can lead to diabetes, cancer and heart disease?

OK, this here’s the Texas Legislature. Remember that.

It’s what happens when everybody votes to get the biggest jackass in the county OUT of the county for a while every other year. When you’ve been a big enough jackass THERE for a while, everybody in your pre-gerrymandered area decides that it would be better to send you to Washington, DC. There, you can annoy a LOT of other people.

And y’all got a lot to learn about Texas politics. They don’t know if it’s true, they don’t CARE if it’s true. They just wanna know if the right lobbyist said to vote for it.

OH, and some places, they don’t vote for the biggest jackass. Some places do like the rest of the South, where we don’t keep our ‘special folks’ in institutions. We put 'em out on the front porch and let ‘em wave at the neighbors. The real friendly ones that can ride a bicycle get to be the paperboy (usually nicknamed Nub or Stubby) and the ones that can’t muster the coordination to ride a bike get elected to somethin’ because they know everybody and can smile nice.

How do y’all think Tom DeLay got where he is?

So, you want to have an abortion?

There is no way this can survive an appeal. Can you imagine the State of Texas trying to fine (or worse) a doctor because he told the truth?

OTOH, it would give doctors who are opposed to abortions a legal way to discourage the abortion and still be ethically ‘clean’.

The bill didn’t include an amendment to exclude women who were pregnant through rape or incest from the waiting period.

Gee, you’re a charmer aren’t you Bob? “Some” meaning the perverted few he associates with. I’m sure his mom considered him a blessing too.

Wow. Are you really saying that any women who chooses to view a child conceived as a result of rape/incest is “perverted”?

I don’t know what percentage of raped women carry babies to term.

I don’t know what percentage of those babies that are carried to term are viewed as a blessing…I expect that “some” would probably be as good as a guess as any.

One doesn’t even need to consider the relative merits (or lack thereof) of this legislation to note that it’s the height of arrogance and stupidity to call those birth mothers “perverted”.
