These are also over the line political potshots. This is an official warning.
There are a number of other inappropriate political comments in this thread, though not as bad as the ones I’ve warned. This is a reminder to keep politics out of this forum.

Wow! the 60’s had answers for everything. I know not all were from that era but the sentiment fits.
Sounds premature, but they are talking of gradual loosening in Spain and several other European countries too. Trump (of course) too get publicity. Quebec as well, starting with schools which may or not be lower risk. Everybody will be watching closely, I’m sure.
Gosh, looking at the stats, that seems a bit soon. New cases per day is dropping in Spain… but it’s still growing fast.
People nearing bankruptcy is also an issue. My old flatmate lives in Barca and he is on the dole. A proper upper middle class guy, who ran an art gallery.
One thing to notice also: not all lock-downs are created equal, if Texas has done it like Arizona, by declaring so many jobs and trades as “essential”, the lock-down is not as hard as it was needed.
Cynically politicians can play the “end lockdown now” spiel for self interest without it actually meaning anything. One of the more powerful tricks in the arsenal is the “I have no power to change this” plea. A politician can rant all they want about ending lockdown, and play to the cheering peanut gallery. But when it comes time to walk the walk, they can always say that events, advice, overwhelming opposition, etc etc have overtaken things, and, despite their best efforts, it isn’t going to happen. See, it wasn’t their fault that lockdown didn’t end. They wanted it more than anyone else, and were working hard for it. But, well, it just didn’t work out.
It is only when there is actual action from a politician to effect change that you worry. Words are cheap. And a politician’s ever more so.
This is a simple pattern, and you can substitute just about anything into the above scenario. It isn’t exactly a new ploy, and it won’t be going out of style any time soon.
I think we need a Land of Confusion in there too…
Evidence from other places indicates that lockdowns have to stay in place at least a month to show any effect, and longer than that to really get the virus under some actual control.
The Texas lockdown hasn’t lasted long enough to show either of those effects.
The problem is that in Texas you have some very impatient people who value money over the lives of people who aren’t like them. On top of that, some of those same impatient, greedy people are probably assuming they and theirs won’t be among the folks getting sick and dying.
Then you have the nutjobs who profess a willingness to die for a better economy. Well, their choice, the problem is that they’re trying to make that choice for other people who don’t agree with their viewpoint.
If it takes a month to have an effect, who accounts for all those unburned matchsticks in the meantime?
Trimming off the political commentary…
In my state, Indiana, it is estimated we will permanently lose at least 1/4 of the businesses in our state.
On the other hand, we will have thousands of people who won’t die, our hospitals are (so far) coping with the influx of cases, and fewer people left pulmonary cripples who survived but still suffered permanent lung damage.
So, just to be extra reckless - if Texas lets up now how many people die or are left disabled for the rest of their lives? Is that the alternative you prefer?
Here’s an extra hint to help you: You can always look for another job, or start another business. Once you’re dead, that’s it - you only get one life.
And like that guy’s daddy said…when you’re dead, you’ll be a dead peckerhead.
I live near Fort Hood and Coryell county has 34 cases this does not include the prison population and we’re under shelter in place.
They’re not playing…
Sharpen the pitchforks, light the torches! Texas Governor Greg Abbott has finally put out his dastardly plan to put Texans lives at risk in service of his corporate overlords and it’s . . . pretty reasonable?
K-12 and higher education are to remain closed for the rest of the school year. Current restrictions on nonessential business operations remain in place, the only change being that retailers will be now be able to offer “curbside pickup” just like grocery stores and restaurants are already doing. Allowing some more nonessential surgeries as long as they don’t deplete hospitals’ PPE and the hospital keeps at least 25% of capacity reserved for COVID-19 patients. And he’s convening a task force of medical experts and business leaders to recommend a phased reopening of the economy.
