Texas governor already talking about ending lockdown

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has decided hey, what the hell, maybe we’ll start opening up next week!

Meanwhile, yesterday was the worst day Texas has had in the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s growing at a cheerily exponential rate there.

There isn’t any indication whatsoever Texas has this under control. Naturally, many people think Abbott has a great idea. You can probably guess their political persuasion.

The worst-hit areas in the country - New York, Detroit, Seattlet, etc - have been ravaged, but they will be recovering just as the disease is starting to hit other cities and communities that have escaped the carnage so far. Some of these areas will have fewer fatalities but the healthcare systems in some places have less capacity to deal with COVID. Their healthcare systems will quickly become overwhelmed.

There’s going to be more wrangling WRT who gets to make the call. Rather than orders coming from the White House is it up to governors, mayors, state health officials…who? https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/coronavirus/dallas-county-leaders-vote-to-limit-jenkins-power-discuss-temporary-hospital/2347223/

Not to worry. IF the bonehead governor goes ahead with this, and IF (God forbid) it turns into a shit-show of overwhelmed hospitals full of dying Texans, I"m sure the GOP has a few back-up plans:

  • Blame Democrats
  • Blame Obama
  • Blame Socialism

You forgot one: blame illegals

Those are the socialist illegals who are bussed in by Obama to vote Democrat.

Blame assignments I have already seen quite a bit of:

China
Fauci, in concert with WHO
5G broadband
People who Want To Violate Our Constitutional Rights and Take Our Freedoms!

Man, that was a great show!

It sounds like your saying the lockdown isn’t helping

Benghazi!

How does this mostly affect children? “The Kids Are Alright.”

The president said long ago that it’s under control. “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Any chance this will end soon? “Summertime Blues”

Trump’s strategy? “Eminence Front”

How difficult is it to stay home? “It’s hard”

Is Coronavirus really that bad? “You Better You Bet.”

So what if I do violate social distancing in NY? “A Legal Matter.”

It sounds like you don’t understand the basic principles behind a lockdown (like the governor of Texas). What’s going on now is the result of what the situation was two weeks ago, and Texas was late in imposing a state-wide lockdown.

Nice one!!

Is it worth spending billions of dollars to keep the economy from crashing? “Bargain.”

For whatever it’s worth, the major cities in Texas locked down well before the state. DFW mostly was in lockdown by the 22nd, and schools were either on spring break or cancelled after the 13th. Houston, Austin and San Antonio were withing a couple of days of that: So while Texas didn’t officially go into lockdown until the 31st, most people, and the most densely populated regions, were ahead of that.

It turns out County Judges, one of those downticket positions, hold a shocking amount of power in Texas. And the county judges of the cities are not fucking around with this.

Which group do you old farts think will be hit hardest? “My generation.” :frowning:

At what point may health directors direct that executives be arrested for endangering public health?

Boy, Mande Jo, I’m happy to hear that. I feel like Arkansas is just a stewing virus pit.

Texas, Louisiana, Memphis, St.Louis surround us.
The population of Arkansas tends older and poorer and African/American. If it gets a foot-hold we’re doomed.

So, just to be extra careful, the lockdown last two more months. How many businesses close? That’s a good thing. Hopefully we don’t all love big brother and people will take their freedom back. Maybe they let people out of jail so they could put dissidents in
