Texas gun group "simulates" Paris attack... result? Really hard to kill gunmen even if armed.

‘because they can’.

Has nothing to do with fear or anything else.

I don’t believe you. No one spends $600-700 to carry around a handgun just because they can. I suppose some do it just to intimidate others.

I have a couple thouasand dollars worth of knives, in a drawer, that disagree with you.

I have them because I can and because I like them - there are other hobbies that are similar.

I am not ‘afraid’ of anything - I don’t have them for ‘protection’ - I simply have them because

a) I can
b) I like them.

now - kives aren’t guns - but there are plenty of hobbies/things people do “just because they can” that might not make sense to you -

But your impression that

a) they only do it because they are scared
b) they do it to intimidate

while true for some - is not true for ALL.

Do you walk around WalMart with your knives strapped to your hip?

I always have atleast one knife on me - in addition my keychain (and my wifes) have knives on them.

I usually keep a larger knife in the truck/boat that have specific purpose.

Knives are tools - I am a firm believer in rule #9.

I always have a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. You and I both know that is not what you were talking about.

People carry guns for three reasons:

  1. They intend to commit crimes.
  2. The are afraid someone will commit a crime against them or near them.
  3. They want to intimidate others.

Any others reason they may express is just pissing on our shoes and telling us it is raining.

I carry more than a ‘swiss army knife’ - there are plenty of other reasons to carry guns - one good example, especially for those in rural areas, may be to deal with pest control (actual animals).

Your three reasons are not the only possiblity.

Again, we not talking about people who live in the woods and encounter bears on a regular basis. I am specifically talking about people who feel the need to carry when they are in urban environments, such as department stores and restaurants. Quit dodging.

I’m not dodging - you asked if there were other valid reasons -

I’ve given you 2.

The knives example was simply that - I spend money on knives (also considered a weapon) that is completely un-related to fear or intimidation and simply because “I can”.

Your refusal to see that there are other valid reasons is your problem.

This is your first mention of urban environments. Are there any other qualifications you’d like to add before a real scotsman shows up?

No it isn’t.

Cite?

I referred to carrying in WalMart several posts back.

You are wrong and your attempt at a cite is not on point. Your post #128 was your first mention “urban environments” in this thread.

WalMart is only in urban environments? If you want, you can rethink that and retract it and I won’t mention it again. Ignoring the lack of citation, do you have any other qualifications you’d like to add, or are you sticking to your enumerated 3 in post#126, with the added qualification you’re talking about urban environments, now.

Nice try. Endless hairsplitting is not going to sway me.

Why bother with facts, amiright?

Sway you? Who is trying to sway you? There is no effort being made to sway you that much is certain. Pointing out that you are factually incorrect and wrong is the point.

I am not factually incorrect, despite your attempts to obfuscate with meaningless quibbles.

Yes you are. You are wrong. You are factually incorrect. Here is the assertion:

You attempted to use your mention of Walmart as your support. This is wrong on two levels. First, Walmart is heavily in non-urban environments, so even if this was your intent, it’s a poor showing. Second, no where previous to your initial comment in post #128 did you refer to so called “urban environments”. So, unless a cite is forthcoming, you are wrong and factually incorrect.

Really, you have an out here. All you have to do is concede that there are more qualifications you’d like to make than the enumerated 3 items in post #126. It’s simple - you can simply say there are other scenario that you hadn’t considered and add as many as you’d like. I even asked directly. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to continue amending your blanket statement since you already did with post #128. Just want to make sure you have ample opportunity to refine whatever point you’re trying to make.

Nope. You are wrong.

Cool story, bro.
