Boy, I wouldn’t want Biden’s job, no matter what it paid.
This would weaken the Federal Government in ways the US has never seen, not even during the Civil War. Once you back down on one issue, what’s to stop them from pushing even further?
You already have some states trying to criminalize interstate travel for the purposes of abortion. Will you back down when Texas puts border guards on their interstate borders to check for pregnant women?
Or transgender people trying to get medical treatment. Or poor people trying to find better paying jobs. At what point would you stop them?
Those are two entirely different situations. First of all, it is already illegal to enter the U.S. without permission under federal law. My order would simply allow Texas or any border state help the federal government enforce that law. I see nothing “weak” in that. Second of all, abortion IS legal in many states within this country, so preventing pregnant women from crossing the border would be both “unlawful restraint” and a violation of their civil rights.
You might not, but they definitely will.
The one lesson anyone should take from the last ten years or so is that Republican authorities will do anything they have the power to do, if no one else has the capacity to stop them. They’ll push every boundary, just to see how far it will bend.
It’s been shown time and time again that no amount of logic and no endless exposure to facts will change the minds of those hard core right wingers, so it is a mistake to be tentative wimps because we are worried about what they think. We already know what they think, and we already know it won’t get any better.
I agree with Bill Maher who has on numerous occasion chastised the democratic party for appearing tentative and weak in the face of aggressive right wing Republicans.
What part of not letting them do whatever they want is being a “tentative wimp”?
Trump is really stirring shit up. I saw a tweet that claimed a good number of states are supporting Texas ignoring the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Trump is asking all states to send their national guards to Texas.
For those interested, the YouTube channel LegalEagle has posted a video on whether Texas can secede from the US. (18 minutes)
That might not turn out the way he thinks it would.
This isn’t just about Texas. Many other states are joining with Texas in supporting the border, some offering to send their own national gurd tomshore up Texas’ efforts.
Does Biden really want to trigger a constitutional and a federal/state crisis to prevent the border from being defended? Why does that administration want to keep the border open so badly? This will cost the Democrats the next election if they don’t change courae.
There’s little point in answering questions injected with false premises.
The border is being defended, and the administration isn’t keeping the border open, so the rest of your post doesn’t really make sense to me.
Has Biden opened the border to all comers?
There are 800 ‘gotaways’ per DAY coming across the southern border. Millions have crossed the border unvetted.
Hey, remember when we rang our hands trying to figure out how 19 hijackers got into America? Good times. Now 800 people per day walk in without so much as talking to a government official, and disappear into America (and Canada). It’s nuts.
The Biden administration needs to pray that there isn’t a terrorist attack in America that can be traced to an illegal immigrant. If that happens, the public will turn on him hard.
If anything costs Democrats the next election, it will be the situation at the border.
I think we know very well how they came. Visas as I recall.
Beginning in 1997, the 19 hijackers submitted 24 applications and received 23 visas. The
pilots acquired most of theirs in the year 2000. The other hijackers, with two exceptions,
obtained theirs between the fall of 2000 and June 2001. Two of the visas were issued in
Berlin, and two were issued in the United Arab Emirates. The rest were issued in Saudi > Arabia. One of the pilots, Hani Hanjour, had an application denied in September 2000
for lack of adequate documentation. He then produced more evidence in support of his
student visa application, and it was approved. Except for Hanjour, all the hijackers
sought tourist visas.
The Biden administration is trying to get more funding for the border. The Republicans were coming on board and an agreement was shaping up, but Trump is now telling them to block any agreement, so now it probably won’t happen. I know that Republican and conservative voters will never hear that part of the story, but hopefully, normal Americans will.
Biden was NOT trying to get funding to close the border. He was trying to get more funding so that more illegals could be processed. He’s fighting Texas, which is actually trying to close the border. Biden is spending federal funds to keep the border from being closed, and risking a clash with southern states to do it.
That doesn’t sound right. Are you sure?
They are not illegals. They’re coming in and asking for asylum, which they are allowed to do. I’m sure some will be denied, and, if they don’t leave when that happens, then they will indeed be illegal aliens, or, preferably, undocumented immigrants.
Cite-free GOP pablum like this doesn’t even warrant a response. The GOP thanks you for repeating their talking points.
