I actually watched a documentary on this kind of thing (called ‘Hell House’) earlier this week. It’s on Netflix instant watch and it’s pretty interesting in a weird and creepy way.

Could the people who ran the hell house face charges for not allowing them to leave? What would have happened if they threatened to call the cops?
