What exactly is this “joinder” thing that all the sovcits yammer about?
It’s a magical get-out-of-jail free phrase. If you say “I refuse to enter into Joinder with you” to law enforcement, then they have to let you go. That’s basically all you need to know.
The basic idea from what it sounds like is that they claim that all responsibilities are based on contract law, and they did not enter into a contract with law enforcement, so the cops have no power over them.
So “entering into (or creating) joinder” is sovcit-speak for the act of entering into an agreement or contract? Is “joinder” a real legal term for that, or for anything?
Yes, it’s a real thing, not just part of their gibberish.
Pretty much every term that the sov-cits use are actual legal terms — just taken out of all context and with their meanings tortured beyond all recognition.
What do sov-cits think they mean when they talk about “joinder”? (Is this even an answerable question?)

More or less, roughly, as much as any of their pseudo-legal terms can be clearly defined, “joinder” is the “joining” of their sovereign selves to the sovereign state. “Creating joinder” seems to basically mean a literal signing of the social contract.
Without “joinder”, they are free and sovereign citizens, and no other sovereign has a legitimate claim on their bodies or rights. Once “joinder” has been created, their personal sovereignty becomes subject to the sovereignty of the state.
The most infamous example is refusal to use zip codes. By using zip codes to send mail, or accepting mail with a zip code printed on it, they are creating joinder between their sovereign selves and the sovereign state, and thus subjecting themselves to the states sovereignty.

The real question here is does Ken Paxton get his pardon or not for authoring and mailing this valentine?
Right. It’s hard to get a firm grasp on exactly what they are saying because: 1) it is all garbage anyways, and 2) they all “articulate” it differently.
From what I have been able to discern, they start with the Declaration of Independence which says that all power from a government comes from the consent of the governed. Well, they are “the governed.” And they do not give consent, therefore the government has no power over them, at all, unless they consent.
They believe that all of us lemmings have consented by entering into contracts (or as a misused term, created joinder) with the government by getting drivers licenses, social security numbers, paying taxes, registering our vehicles, entering the well of courtrooms, and so forth. Some take this further and argue that governments are corporations and can never enter into contracts with flesh and blood people (where they get this I don’t know) and therefore, the government separates us into two entities, one the individual, and one the corporate entity who can contract with them (sometimes they call this the person, which is why sometimes they headscratchingly say that they are not a person).
They again use “evidence” such as the all caps on a court document. Sov cits are big on capitalization and one wrong use or misuse of it, to them, means that they are home free. For example, if they see JOHN DOE on a court document, that is not them, as they are John Doe (note capitalization). Therefore, that court document does not refer to them as a free person but a fictional corporate entity. They then make a “special appearance” in court and claim that they are John Doe, a free person, appearing as (sometimes) an “agent” or a “settlor” or as a “secured party” for JOHN DOE.
Also, in their “consent is the only way to deal with them” they make absurd demands that if the police officer is attempting to “contract with” them, they agree only to speak to them for some outrageous sum like $100k per minute. They then claim that by continuing to attempt to interact, the police officer has acquiesced to that “contractual” term and thus owes them $100k for every minute, and they then send bills, invoices, and in extreme cases create illegal liens against their homes and other property.
At the end of the day, it is all serious garbage and has no force of law, or does not come close to it. Many of those people are just goofballs trying to get out of traffic citations, but many people take it very and some of those people are dangerous.
