Text Before Bullet Points

Turn off the auto-bulleting feature.

Indeed. Word thinks you are dumb, and thinks that if you type a list with “a., b., c…” etc, then you want it turned into a bulleted list. Nine times out of ten, you don’t.

No, no. Word is good. The MS marketing department thinks you are a drooling idiot.

As others noted, you can simply not use auto-numbering. But it’s pretty easy to do it with auto-numbering. Right-click one of the bullets, select Numbering | Define New Number Format. In the number format box, you’ll see something like ‘a.’. Put an asterisk in front of the ‘a’ and it will add that to all the auto-numbered items in the list.

Are you planning to distribute your CV via hard copy or electronically?

If you are planning to distribute via hard copy only, you have some good advice.

However, if this is for electronic distribution, forget the fancy formatting crap and follow the KISS Principle. Otherwise you run the risk of the recipient unable to read your electronic document and circular filing it without a second thought. If your CV is read by an electronic application process, it can be easily rejected because the automatic system might not digest your formatting.

Duckster, note the OP is no longer on the board. A new question related to bullets was asked in post #17, but it doesn’t sound like that user is worried about electronic distribution.

Your point related to CVs/resumes is good for anyone else, though.

I stumbled on this because I had the exact same issue as the original poster and was going insane. My issue is now resolved. I shall now take up the quest to fight ignorance in some area where I have more expertise in order to give back to this wonderful crime fighting community.

To be honest, I don’t think much crime fighting gets done here.

I personally consider ignorance to be more of an infraction, than a full-fledged crime.

Gimme back mah bullets!
