Haven’t had this happen in years, but suddenly I’m starting to get advertising texts. Not sure I would call it a major flood of them or anything, but 3 in the last two weeks after damn near a decade of not getting them, something changed and I wonder if it’s connected to this new pos phone. Samsung has installed an aweful lot of their spy/bloatware on it.
Anyone else have a problem with suddenly getting advertising texts after getting a new phone, or even just recently?
I’ve had a few over the past year or so, but I’ve had my (pos Samsung) phone a lot longer than that.
I haven’t gotten any advertising texts from major companies if that’s what you mean. Just the occasional obvious phishing text. The last time I bought a new-to-me phone it was a pre-owned unlocked phone, so maybe that’s less likely to come with spyware.
The odd things is that I’ve been texted twice last week by political organisations asking if I’d be interested in running for school board. I assume that’s related to the fact that I’ve donated to candidates in the past. And no, I have zero interest in running for school board or any other office.
I have lost count of how many spam texts I’ve gotten in the last week. Usually, its 1 or 2 a month, now its 4-5 daily.
I have an iPhone 6s and for a few weeks now, I’m getting those, starting at one a day now three a day. Never noticed one in many years, until then.

After I got my new phone I started getting PORN. (I guess it’s porn spam, as I didn’t ask for it, huh?) That was startling. The sad thing is, it was hot women offering themselves to me. Not the way my taste runs, sadly. I thought I was the hot woman in fact. It is finally tapering off; I have had the phone nearly 6 months.
Well then, maybe it’s a cyclical thing. This region or that area code+prefix at this time or after that one or some such thing, and I just happen to get a new phone chock full of samsungy spyware goodness! at the just right time in the cycle or whatever
