Slight hijack, but I found this part of the article somewhat odd;

It looks to me like she was facing child pornography charges in the first court, and was then arrested for a new set of charges pertaining to the statutory rape with international transportation and brought before the second court. The reason for the change of venue isn’t clear; maybe it was a state court versus federal court issue. The child pornography charges may have been the same ones that were pending a hearing in the first court, integrated into the new proceedings, or maybe the Feds discovered another portion of her kiddie-porn stash.
Damn, I was so hoping for a reference in the story to anal sex, which would have made the phrase “keeping the door open for the spread of the Gospel” so much more deliciously ironic.
This is how it works–The local cops are holding the bad guy. The stiff and supercilious FBI guy comes and tries to take the bad guy away on related federal charges, but the cops resent this because they did the legwork. If the cop is a woman, the FBI guy makes a sexist comment in there somewhere. The cops finagle a way to hold on to the suspect while they figure out a way to cockblock the FBI guy. But sometimes they manage to work together and pull off some sort of fancy footwork like giving the bad guy immunity for the local charges in exchange for her confession, only to have the FBI swoop in and nab them for the federal charges. Many zingers are exchanged regardless.
But sometimes, it happens more or less in reverse, except the local cops are obstructionist yokels and it’s the chief of police who makes the sexist comment to the female FBI agent. And if the male FBI agent and the female cop happen to be married to each other, things get more complicated.

Did they really make the marine guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stand duty in the middle of a hurricane? They must be really worried about that guy getting away!
This came up on the SDMB during Sandy; they do indeed stand out in the rain and wind. Apparently there is a small shelter there they can use if it gets bad enough though.
